Kamo High School Bus Route Information as at June 2019. Any alterations to services for the 2020 year will be advertised in the Public Notices of the Northern Advocate in late January 2020. Any significant changes to bus routes for 2020 will be emailed/posted out to families / whanau affected early in January.
KO1 - Punaruku/Oakura/Helena Bay
Leaves Punaruku School at 7.20 am and Oakura Shop at 7.30am, travels via Russell Rd to SHI, then SH1 to Hikurangi Primary (No pickups - Hikurangi students must catch the KO7 bus) return to SH1 then on to KHS.
KO2 - Hukerenui Rd/Jordan Valley Rd
Leaves Hukerenui Rd/SH1 Intersection at 7.40am, travels via Hukerenui Rd to Kopeti Rd, on to Riponui Road / Hukerenui Road intersection (uplifts students from KO15) via Hukerenui Rd to Jordan Valley intersection, via Jordan Valley Rd to SH1, back to Hikurangi Primary (No pickups - Hikurangi students must catch the KO7 bus) then via SH1 and Saleyards Road (pickup Cnr Vinegar Hill Rd) then on to KHS.
KO3 – Hukerenui
Leaves Hukerenui School at 7.50am travels via SH1 to Old North Road, via Old North Road to McLennan Road (Whakapara Hall) (Secondary students transfer to KO16).
KO4 - Marua
Leaves Madden Road/Marua Road intersection at 7.40am, travels via Marua Road to Hikurangi Primary (students picked up in Valley Road only – no secondary students picked at the Primary School), via Jordan Valley Road to Apotu Road, via Apotu Road to SH1, then on to KHS.
KO5 - Purua
Leaves Drake Rd/Pipiwai Rd intersection at 7.50am, travels via Pipiwai Rd to Ruatangata Garage, picks up Secondary students from Primary run (Attwood Rd) then on to SHI / KHS. (No pm service to Attwood Road).
KO6 - Matarau
Leaves Lovell Road at 7.45am, travelling via Matarau Rd, stops at Rushbrook Rd intersection, on to Pipiwai Rd. Leaves Ngararatuna at 8.05am, on to Church Road & Dip Rd, then to KHS.
KO7 – Hikurangi Express
Leaves the North end of King Street at 7.55am, travels via King Street and George Street to SH1 then on to KHS. (All Hikurangi township students, except Valley Road residents, must catch this bus). Afternoon return bus leaves promptly at 3.25pm.
KO11 - Three Mile Bush Road
Leaves Smithville Rd intersection at 7.35am via Three Mile Bush Rd to Pipiwai Rd, on to Tremain / Miro Rd terminus, return via Pipiwai Road to Matarau Rd (Matarau School at 7.50am/no pickups – secondary students use KO6), to Church Rd & Crane Rd, via Crane Rd to Apotu Road, SH1 and KHS
KO13 - Whananaki
Leaves Whananaki Primary at 7.30am via Whananaki Nth. Rd to Whatmough Rd - transfer to KO24 at approx 7.50am – AM only (PM return trip is KO13 for full journey).
KO15 - Crows Nest/Riponui
Leaves Hukerenui Primary at 7.10am via Crows Nest Rd to Riponui Rd, via Riponui to Marlow Rd, return via Riponui Road to Hukerenui Rd, (transfer secondary students to KO2 approx 7.55am).
KO16 - Puhipuhi/Mine Roads
Leaves Tea Tree Flat Road/Puhipuhi Road intersection at 7.50am, travels via Puhipuhi Rd to to SH1, travels SH1 to Old North Road & McLennans Rd (Whakapara Hall - uplifts secondary students from KO3) via SHI to Hikurangi Primary (no pickups), on to KHS.
KO22 – Hukerenui/Tapuhi
Leaves the terminus at Nelsons Road at 7.35am, travels via Tapuhi Rd to Waiotu Block Road, via Waiotu Block Road to SH1, via SH1 to Hukerenui School. Leaves Hukerenui School at 7.55am, travels via SH1 direct to KHS.
KO24 - Pigs Head Rd/Whananaki North Rd
AM trip only (students use KO13 in afternoons except students on Pigshead Road who use KOI) Bus leaves Pigs Head Road/Kaikanuii Road intersection at 7.35am, travels via Pigs Head Rd to Whananaki North Road,/Whatmough Rd intersection (uplift secondary students from KO13 at 7.50 am), travel via Whananaki North Rd to SHI, via Hikurangi Primary School (no pickups) to KHS.
The following areas are serviced by buses provided and managed by the Ministry of Education:
Students travelling from the east (Ocean Beach/Pataua South/Parua Bay/Onerahi), south (Portland/ Maungakaramea) and west (Maungatapere/Maunu Heights) are able to travel on the Ministry operated bus services to Whangarei Girls' & Boys' High Schools’ Bus Bay. All students not attending their nearest secondary school have to pay for their full journey to the school of their choice. There will be one fare ($3.00 / $25 for 10 trip card) for the first leg and then the shuttle bus cost from WGHS Bus Bay to Kamo ($3 per trip or $25.00 for a 10 trip card). This bus will leave when all connecting buses have arrived from the outlying areas (approx 8.40am). The return shuttle bus leaves Kamo High at 3.15pm. Students using this bus must obtain an “early bus pass” from the school’s Bus Controller.
The Ocean Beach bus leaves from Ranui Road, via Parua Bay to WGHS/BHS bus bay. There are buses leaving Onerahi area – Shops, Raurimu Ave, Ross Street and Sherwood Road.
The Maungatapere buses leave from the Old Dairy Company, Tattons Road Cnr, the Substation and Kokopu Rd/Kara Rd intersection. A bus leaves Maunu Primary picking up down as far as Pukenui Road. All queries regarding these routes, times and stops should be directed to Ritchies. (Onerahi students can also use the CityLink Bus – see details below)
Students travelling from Sandy Bay/Matapouri/Ngunguru/Glenbervie/Pataua Nth areas are able to travel on the Ministry operated bus services to Tikipunga High School. All students not attending their nearest secondary school have to pay for their full journey to the school of their choice. There will be one fare ($3) for the first leg of their journey and then the normal shuttle bus cost from Tikipunga High School to Kamo High. ($3 per trip or $25.00 for a 10 trip card).
Buses leave from Sandy Bay, Wellingtons Bay, Ngunguru School, Ngunguru Ford Road, Pataua North and Glenbervie area. Queries regarding these routes, times and stops should be directed to Ritchies. Students who reside in Tikipunga can catch either the City Link bus (see below) or the Tikipunga/Kamo shuttle bus which leaves at 8.10am from outside Tikipunga High and also stops opp. Vinegar Hill Road.
Details of all services including coastal and south of Whangarei will be provided at enrolment. All services provided by Ritchies Transport - Ph 438 7142 School bus services are provided in accordance with Ministry of Education Guidelines. As such, the bus service to Kamo High School as your nearest school’ allows for free bus services. If Kamo High School is not the nearest school to your address but you choose to enrol, the cost of transport to and from this school may be a factor in your decision-making.

Students living in the Onerahi/Riverside/Raumanga/Otaika/City/Kensington areas are not eligible for free bus transport. There is a public bus service, City Link, which has buses leaving Smeatons Drive at 7.40 am and Onerahi Airport at 7.17 am for Rose St. The Kamo (via Tikipunga) bus leaves Rose Street at 8.05am. Return buses leave Kamo shops for Rose Street via Kamo Road/Regent at 3.36pm or via Tikipunga at 4.30pm. To get cheaper fares students need to produce a photo ID at the Rose Street Terminus and purchase a Snapper Card. Cards can be topped up at the NRC offices, Rose Street Terminus or Pepe’s dairy. Snapper cards expire at the end of February each year unless Birth Certificate is supplied and then it is valid until the student is 15 years old.
