Pudina

Year : 2021

Medium : Acrylic on Cardboard

Dimension (cm) : 19 x 40 x 0.5cm

Mint is used extensively in Malay cooking to add fragrance and freshness to our dishes. In many Malay kitchens, it is common to see small mint plants against windows or sprigs of mint in containers to retain their freshness. In this artwork, we see a sprig of mint in an adapted McCormick bottle, pointing to the resourcefulness of Malay people.

Pudina is part of a series of work that

documents the knowledge, traditions and presence of plants in everyday Malay life.

Selasih

Year : 2021

Medium : Mixed media

Dimension (cm) : 40 x 33.5 x 0.5cm

In Selasih, we see a bed of basil leaves

being dried out on newspaper after a quick wash. The knowhow of treating vegetables and herbs has been passed down through generations of Malays. It is important to retain this knowledge and ensure its continuity.

Selasih is part of a series of work that

documents the knowledge, traditions and presence of plants in everyday Malay life.
