My name is Jessica Brown, and I am your teacher this year. I have been an English teacher since the beginning of 2020, and I have a Master of Creative Writing degree from Massey University.
At Level Two, you have four lessons a week in English. In this class, you will read, write, debate and analyse. This course has been carefully planned to enable you to achieve at the highest level, including the possibility of a subject endorsement.
Everything you need to get organised is on this page, including a stationery list and a course overview with all assignment due dates. Take some time to get familiar with the content so you are ready for what English looks like at NCEA Level Two.
I am looking forward to working with you and getting to know you!
To be fully prepared for class you will need to have the following:
A clear file
An exercise book
A reading book, e.g. a novel
Pens
Felt tips
You will be using your laptop in class, so please make sure you bring it, and it is fully charged.
This year you will settle into class by either reading or writing. As per the stationery list, you will need a text for reading and an exercise book for writing in with you every lesson.
We will be keeping track of our reading via GoodReads. This is a great site for gaining exposure to a wide range of books and connecting with others.
If you don't already have an account, make one using your school email account. Once you are set up, find your book and update your progress.
Spend five minutes connecting with your friends and teacher on GoodReads. You can write encouraging comments for your friends or ask them questions about what they are reading. Please note cyber etiquette applies to all posts.
Across the year, we will be utilising peer feedback groups to amplify our learning and refine our writing. You will find that taking part in these groups will have an incredible impact on the quality of your writing and give you the best chance of success in your assessment tasks.
We will use peer feedback groups alongside one-on-one teacher feedback in every internally assessed standard.
You will work with the same group of students for the entire year.
The groups have been randomly selected and will only be changed with a compelling reason. You can find your group in the table below.
