Mission
Mission
Health services are provided for students to evaluate, protect, and promote health. These services are constructed to (1) maintain access and/or referral to primary health care services, (2) utilize appropriate use of primary health care services, (3) prevent and control communicable disease and other health concerns, (4) provide emergency care for students and staff illness or injury, (5) promote and provide optimum healthful conditions for a safe school facility and school environment, and (6) provide educational and counseling opportunities for promoting and maintaining individual, family, and community health.
Registered nurses in schools function most directly in three areas affecting students: health services, health education, and the school environment. The school nurse will also interact within the school environment with other aspects of school health, mental health, social services, school nutrition, physical education and activity, family and community involvement, and staff health promotion. The Registered School Nurse serves as a professional liaison with faculty, staff, and the medical community and coordinates health programs, promotes healthy lifestyles, and educates students, families, staff, and communities.

Donna Trail, RN
Deerfield Elementary School- School Nurse
I attended Motlow State Community College where I obtained my associate in science degree in nursing. After graduation I started working in orthopedics at St. Thomas Hospital in Nashville. Shortly after I had moved to special & critical care units I furthered my education by obtaining my UT Critical Care from UT @ Nashville. The majority of my experience is in cardiac care area but I have also spent much time in critical care with respiratory, transplant, dialysis, outpatient radiology, special procedures and many other areas. Twelve of my 28 years of experience I received from working at St.Thomas. I have also spent time working at the original Riverpark Hospital in McMinnville as the Surgical Charge Nurse and worked PRN in the ER as needed. In 2003 I made a change to School Nursing which I did for 2 1/2 years full time when I had another opportunity come available at one of our local hospitals United Regional Medical Center working as a Case Manager where I stayed until 2009. I remained with the school system PRN during this time to assist when and where I was needed. During this time I come to realize how much the school setting had become part of my life and which I returned in 2009 full time again.
The Coffee County School System and school nursing is where I found my passion and love in nursing. I have spent 28 years in nursing in many wonderful and different areas, but it is here in my hometown that I plan on spending the rest of my career until retirement. I am truly blessed to spend my time with the wonderful students and staff that makes up Deerfield Elementary. I am very proud to be a part of Team Coffee.

Prior to joining the Coffee County School System, I worked in various surgical settings. Most of my time was spent in neurological and urological surgery. I obtained my associate of science from Troy University in Alabama and my bachelor of science from Middle Tennessee State University. I enjoy working in a collaborative environment that provides an opportunity to make a positive impact on the students and families in Coffee County.
Lindsay Ridner, RN
East Coffee Elementary- School Nurse
I am a graduate of Motlow State Community College with my Associates of Nursing. I began my nursing career at Harton Regional Medical Center in the Women's Center. After nearly five years in Women's Health, an opportunity to work as an RN with Coffee County Schools presented itself. I always had an strong interest in school nursing also, so I jumped at this chance. This is my ninth year at East Coffee Elementary School, and I cannot imagine working anywhere else. To me there's nothing more magical and rewarding than viewing life through a child's eyes, and I consider my job a privilege.

Hickerson Elementary School- School Nurse
I received my Associate Degree in Nursing from Motlow State Community College and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Cumberland State University. I began my career as a School Nurse with Coffee County Schools in the Fall of 2010. I am so thankful to be a part of the family at Hickerson Elementary. My husband, Kevin, and I have 3 sons, Cale, 16, Clay, 12, and Colt, 5. Our two older sons went through elementary school here and our youngest will be a Hickerson Hawk in 2019 when he begins Kindergarten. I enjoy promoting a healthy lifestyle among our students, staff, faculty, and community. I have played an active role in our grant writing committee and we have been fortunate to receive several grants to assist with new playground equipment, a walking track, STEM supplies, and funds to have Taste Test Days. I also play a key role in coordinating our annual 5k event and initiated our first Cross Country team here at Hickerson

I attended college at Horry Georgetown in Myrtle Beach SC , transferred to the LPN bridge program at Conway's School of Nursing and graduated in 2001. After graduation I returned to Tennessee and started my career in Geriatrics before transferring to Neuro. Needing more flexible hours I started home care working for a DME company setting up CPAP, BIPAPS ,feeding pumps, apena monitors and Ventilators. DME home-care made me love seeing patients in their own environment and I transferred to Home Health which I have continued to do for past 11 years. This is my first school year in the school nurse position at the Middle School. School nursing has been challenging, but I have truly enjoyed this new challenge and the kids we get to interact with daily.

Coffee County Raider Academy- School Nurse
After a career in Management with a company that spanned 22 years, I was led to make a career change when the company shut down. I’ve always had an interest in the Medical field, so I decided that Nursing would be my new career path. After completing the Nursing program at Motlow State Community College in 2008, I began my exciting new career as a Registered Nurse. Before settling in as the School Nurse at Coffee County Middle School in 2012, I gained Nursing experience in Med/Surg, Same-day Surgery, Recovery, Emergency Room and Home Health. I feel like I am finally “at home” at Coffee County Middle School and hope to continue caring for the children here for years to come.
