College Application Process
APPLICATION
1. Click here to login to your SchooLinks account.
2. To add a college to SchooLinks not on Common App, click the “Colleges” tab> Then select College Applications>Select Add Application.
3. Complete the on-line application either through the college website or the Common Application website.
You MUST add or match applications to your SchooLinks account to assure all transcripts and supplemental materials are sent to the college(s).
TRANSCRIPT
Fill out a Western Albemarle High School transcript request form and be aware of the following:
-requests are due at least 20 business days (do not include holiday/breaks) in advance of college application deadline date
-list each school you are applying to check the box marked "Counselor Recommendation Needed," if applicable
-forms need to be returned to the student's school counselor
DUAL ENROLLMENT STUDENTS
PVCC transcripts must be requested directly through
PVCC's website and by creating an account on Parchment (click here for more information)

RECOMMENDATIONS
Colleges vary in their recommendation letter requirements. Each college sets its own policy, so check each school on your list to make sure you understand exactly who is to write your letter and how many they will accept.
COUNSELOR LETTER
The Senior Recommendation Questionnaire will be used to help your counselor write your recommendation letter. The more information you, your parents/guardians include on these forms the better! These forms are strictly in-house evaluation forms and DO NOT go to your colleges. Click on the links below to access these sheets.
ALL FORMS MUST BE TURNED IN TO YOUR COUNSELOR
20 DAYS BEFORE YOUR FIRST DEADLINE (not including holidays)
TEACHER LETTERS
Be sure to ask the teacher if they will write you a college recommendation letter 20 days in advance.
Click here to login to your SchooLinks account.
After adding a college application to your account, click "Request Teacher Recommendation" and select from the drop-down window.
You MUST add a teacher to your SchooLinks account to ensure the teacher letter/s is/are sent to the college/s.
TESTING
You are responsible for signing up & submitting your scores to the college(s) of your choosing. Some schools will accept self-reported scores, others may require official scores. Scores are ONLY official if sent from the College Board or ACT. The scores on your transcript are NOT considered official.

Fee waivers are available for students who financially qualify.

PERSONAL STATEMENTS/ESSAYS
Each school varies in their essay topics and personal statements. Make sure you pay attention to the exact requirement of the school you are applying to. Your personal statement or essay give you a chance to give admission officers a better idea of your character and strengths. Remember to proofread your essays carefully before you send them in.
SUPPLEMENTAL MATERIALS
Schools may also request additional supplemental materials. This may include the Self Reported Academic Record (SRAR). Be sure you understand the exact requirements before you officially submit.
PROSPECTIVE PVCC STUDENTS
Let your counselor know if you intend to attend PVCC. We will place you on a list for assistance with your application in the spring.
