The four major branches of the military are the Army, the Navy, the Air Force, and the Marines. There are also military opportunities in the Coast Guard, the National Guard, and the Reserves. ROTC programs are available for those students who want to attend college before they enter the military.

Career and technical schools offer short-term training in a wide variety of career fields. While some programs last only a few weeks, others take up to two years to complete. Apprentices learn their trade through a combination of classroom instruction and on-the-job training.
For more information, research PVCC Workforce Services, CATEC Adult Education Programs, or Virginia Wizard.
On-the-job training is provided by the employer, and it can last anywhere from a few hours to several months.
For more information, go to the Virginia Workforce Connection.
A four-year college education or bachelor’s degree can open doors, provide status, and prepare students for financially rewarding careers. Colleges vary greatly in their sizes, costs, settings, admissions policies, and the majors they offer.

Community colleges provide affordable, career-oriented programs that enable students to begin their careers after two years of college or less. Those completing two-year programs earn their associate degrees. Students completing short-term programs (one year or less) receive certificates or diplomas. Students may also have the opportunity to transfer to a four-year college to earn a bachelor's degree.
For more information about schools and programs, go to Virginia Community College System or submit this form to set up a meeting with Ms. Cay Lee Ratliff, our PVCC Outreach & Engagement Liaison.
If you have taken a Dual Enrollment course and plan on attending PVCC, fill out the Program of Studies Change form found here. Email it to Ms. Ratliff (CRatliff@pvcc.edu), and she will send you further instructions.
