I've filled out the form, what do I do now?
Thanks for filling out the form! Per the flow chart: (https://drive.google.com/file/d/1HRi5i50WDQYjOZMM4hs5dHhJxPZ5xGUN/view?usp=sharing), and depending on the category your specific case falls in, a specialist will review the information you provided and will provide recommendations within 5-7 business days. After providing recommendations, your specialist will follow-up within 10 business days to determine how things are going and what, if any, are the next steps.
Would you rather be hot all the time or cold all the time?
How is this even a question? Being hot all the time would be terrible, we choose cold. Think of all the fires and cozy sweaters we get to enjoy :)
What if the Tier 1 recommendations aren't working?
Reach out to your specialist for problem solving ideas, we're here to help! If, following implementation of provided recommendations, Tier 1 recommendations aren't successful your specialist will discuss moving your student to Tier 2 level of support.
What if I don't get a response within the timeframe indicated?
Sometimes we get overwhelmed with the amazing stuff going on around the county. If you haven't heard from us within the specified time frame please feel free to reach out to your assigned specialist to check in, we won't be upset!
On an average day, how many pigeons do you think you could carry?
Believe it or not, we get asked this question almost daily. Based on extensive testing, the general consenus is...none. We have not yet been able to catch one (not becasue we haven't tried! Pigeons are faster than they look). We promise to update this as the number increases.
What if I want to try some things on my own, or I see some resources on your site that might work for other students in my class?
Please do! If you need clarification on anything you find here, just ask!
What if the student I need help with isn't SPED identified, or isn't a student with Autism?
That's ok! Tier 1 recommendations aren't disability specific, any student can benefit from them, feel free to try any support you find on this website. However there are some things to note - we (the Autism/Behavior/Learning Specialists) do not directly support students who are not already receiving SPED services. Don't worry though! Your responses are still recorded and the information is sent to Kevin Kirst and Miles Nelson, the amazing team behind Student Services. Additional recommendations made by Student Services may include referral for testing, referral to other ACPS specialists, and/or other parts of the SBIT process. For more info on how you might be supported in these cases, please refer to the flow chart found here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1HRi5i50WDQYjOZMM4hs5dHhJxPZ5xGUN/view?usp=sharing
What is your favorite movie?
Wow great question, thanks for asking! Shawshank Redemption or The Goonies, hands down. Don't make us choose! Though a huge shoutout for Maverick, at least one of us has seen it 3 times!
