Word of the Week: Kindness!
Hollywood
East: 3,2,1 BLASTOFF! Here we go, last week of extrodinary talent and creativity. Our kiddos are dancing, flipping, dribbling on the stage this week. We are all coming together to show either our favorite dances over the years or our talent as a group. We are a very creative group of people and love to put on a good show. We're so happy to have the opportunity every summer to build our confidence to express ourselves. Thank you for coming to support the kids each Friday! ENJOY THE SHOW!
Healey: As the curtain closes on our final week in the Hollywood Club, I can’t help but reflect on what an amazing summer it has been. This week, the children collaborated in groups to create their own songs and dances, and we loved having teachers, peers, and staff join in on the fun. The children truly challenged themselves—and me—in the best ways, making this not only a creative journey but also an incredible learning experience. While it’s hard to believe our summer program has come to an end, I am deeply grateful for the memories, growth, and joy we’ve shared. My hope is that each child carries this confidence into the new school year, approaching it with positive attitudes, eagerness to learn, and the courage to shine as brightly as they have all summer.
*Shoutout to the HOLLYWOOD high school helpers , you rock !
East: For our final week of camp we got to enjoy the theme of Galactic Blast off. In Destination Imagination students got to learn about comets, starts and planets. They got to watch a real astronaut in a space ship read them a story called “If I Was an Astronaut”. Throughout the week we got to reuse materials from the summer and make a comet thats blasting off the page, using tin foil and lots of tissue paper. We also got to use paper plates to make astronaut helmets that you might have even saw on stage.
The summer was full of fun and crazy crafts. We will miss spending time with all of the kiddos and hope you all enjoy the rest of your summer!
Destination Imagination
Healey: In our last week of Adventure Program 2025, we are blasting off to explore the solar system, stars, galaxies and the universe with our theme “Galactic Blastoff.” In Destination Imagination, we are making glittering night sky creations and learning about black holes, meteors, and the formation of galaxies.
The activities for the week in Destination Imagination are making glittery representations of outer space, and drawing aliens and alien spaceships. We watched informational videos about the solar system, meteors, galaxies, and black holes. Our Monday activity using glitter left traces of the sparkle of outer space all over the school.
Students were very enthusiastic about the glitter and asked to use it again and again. Students also did a great job with the aliens and spaceships, using their imagination fully. Imagination is the key and the students have it! Blast-off! Next stop, School Year 2025 - 2026!
STEAM
East: We are blasting off into space here in STEAM class. Campers played Outerspace Bingo this week and really enjoyed learning different things about outer space while playing bingo. This game was definitely a hit! We also did a few different activities related to space and aliens. Some groups made their own puzzles, some made their own rockets and some made their own magnets. All were related to the theme of Outerspace! We have had such a fun couple of weeks at camp!
Healey: This week the theme was Galactic Blastoff. On Monday students engineered mars rovers, testing them on a ramp to see how far they could go. They learned how to make an axel using a straw, dowel, and bottle caps. They experimented with adding weight to see if it would make their rover go further. The record from the day was 21 feet! On Wednesday students learned about the planets in our solar system. They used model magic to create a model of a planet. We then took all the models outside to create a model solar system. Students used a measuring tape to make sure the planets were the correct distance from the sun where 1 Astronomical Unit was 10 inches and then orbited around the sun. It was fun to see students make observations, hypothesize, experiment, and engineer all summer long!
East: Welcome to the last week of Just Do It @East. As it comes to a close, we decided it was best for students to run class this week and choose their favorite game to play. On Friday, we ended it off participating in the Olympic Games with the Healey camp @Foss Park. Mr. David and Ms. Diana had a blast working with each group this summer. Thank you for making it so fun every week. We made some awesome memories together, and we hope you all have a great rest of your summer!
Just Do It
Healey: Hi everyone,
And just like that our final day of camp has arrived! What a journey it's been, filled with sports, fun, and a whole lot of sweat.
This past week, our campers took everything they’ve learned and channeled it into creating the ultimate basketball and kickball games. Let’s just say... it was intense, a little confusing, but 100% fun and creative.
The highlight? A kickball game with a twist imagine a mix of kickball, dodgeball, and baseball all rolled into one. Our students absolutely loved it. Our staff? Well, their kneecaps may never be the same but it was worth every minute!
East: A Heart Full of Gratitude! As we wrapped up our final week of summer camp, we took time to reflect on one of life’s most important values: gratitude. This week, we focused on being grateful and thankful for the lives we have and the people who make our days brighter. During our circle chat, we looked within and around us to recognize the big and small things that bring joy, comfort, and meaning.
The students talked about their favorite memories, shared stories of loved ones, and experiences that shaped who they are. It was inspiring to hear the honesty, empathy, and wisdom that each student brought to our discussions.
As a special activity, each camper wrote a letter of gratitude to their parents or caregivers—thanking them for their love, patience, guidance, and support. It was a beautiful way to celebrate the power of thankfulness and the strong bonds that hold us together as families.
Throughout these five incredible weeks, we’ve watched your children grow—socially, emotionally, and creatively. They’ve made new friends, learned important life skills, and discovered more about who they are and who they want to be. We’ve explored emotions, practiced kindness, built trust, solved problems, and most importantly, had so much fun together!
From silly games and circle time to thoughtful activities and meaningful conversations, every moment we spent with your children was filled with laughter, learning, and connection. We are so proud of each camper and grateful for the opportunity to be part of their journey this summer.
As we close out this unforgettable camp season, we want to thank you, parents and families, for your support, encouragement, and trust. It has truly been an honor to spend time with your amazing children.
We hope you all have a joyful rest of your summer, full of sunshine, laughter, adventure, and continued growth. Until we meet again, remember to keep showing kindness, sharing your gratitude, and celebrating the unique light each of you brings into the world.
Counselor's Corner
Healey: As we come to the end of our Summer Adventures, I hope we have all learned why we value friendships and how important they are for us. Acting in a friendly way and sharing time and interests with others makes us and our world a happier place! Being a good friend means being kind, reliable, trustworthy, and thoughtful. Importantly, it also means being flexible and open to change. We stressed how flexibility is a key part of successful friendships, especially when friends have different goals or schedules than we have. As a friend, we learned that it is not important for us to always get our way but sometimes putting the needs of our friends before our own needs.
In Counselor’s Corner, we emphasized how friendships go up and down, back and forth, like a see-saw and are not always equally balanced. By considering other peoples’ ideas and feelings, we can learn creative new ways to get things done. Flexibility helps us and our friendships keep changing and growing for the better so we all can learn and stay balanced. To reinforce our ability to be flexible, we made slime- a very messy but fun activity that everyone loved!
I’ve enjoyed our Counselor's Corner time this summer and I hope you all have, too. I feel like we’ve all made many new friends at camp and I look forward to seeing these friendships grow when we return to school in the fall. See you all soon!
