Important 5th Grade Announcements

*Forms for STARBASE were sent home on 12/5. Please send the completed forms back ASAP! STARBASE will be in January and February!

We are excited to inform you that all of the 5th Grade classes will be participating in the Department of Defense (DoD) STARBASE program starting in January 2026. This exceptional program lasts four days, totaling 20-25 hours, with students participating one day each week. 

The STARBASE program's mission is to provide innovative educational experiences in unique settings that focus on science, technology, engineering, math (STEM), and teamwork skills. Designed primarily for fifth graders, the curriculum is hands-on and inquiry-based, ensuring that students actively engage in learning and problem-solving. Studies show that participation in STARBASE improves students’ attitudes and confidence in STEM subjects.

Our students will join approximately 3,600 fifth graders across South Dakota who benefit from this outstanding program each school year. We are thrilled for this opportunity to inspire your child to explore STEM and develop their collaborative skills.
