According to the American School Counselor Association: School counselors are certified/licensed educators with the minimum of a master’s degree in school counseling and are uniquely qualified to address the developmental needs of all students through a school counseling program addressing the academic, career and social/ emotional development of all students.
In other words, as a school counselor, my role is to support students and staff socially, personally, and academically.
School Counselors can assist with:

Short term counseling
managing emotions
coping strategies
academic strategies
friendship/social skills
self-esteem
conflict resolution
grief/loss
Referrals for long term support
Student advocate
Transition
Team collaboration for student success

School Counselors work with students, staff, and families to ensure school success. If there are concerns that a student has factors that are inhibiting learning, they may be referred to the School Counselor.
Ways students can be referred to the School Counselor is by self-referral, staff referral, counselor referral, and parent referral. You may use this Google Form to set up a time to meet with the school counselor.
