Next to the door of each room should be a map of the school and instructions on what to do in case of a fire or fire drill.
During a drill, all students and faculty are to leave the building while administration makes a sweep. Classroom teachers are to have access to their rosters and a "go" bag, located in their room. When leaving their classroom, teachers should make sure doors and windows are closed.
Classes congregate on the playground. Teachers should make sure their class made it outside. Administration will give the all-clear to re-enter the building and return to class.
In the event of an actual fire, students and faculty would congregate at the church across the street for further instructions.
Next to the door of each room should be a map of the school and instructions on what to do in case of a tornado or tornado drill.
During a drill, all students and faculty are to move quickly to their assigned bathrooms, closets, or locker rooms while administration makes a sweep. Classroom teachers are to have access to their rosters and a "go" bag, located in their room. When leaving their classroom, teachers should make sure doors and windows are closed.
Classes congregate in their assigned areas. Teachers should make sure their class made it to their destination. Administration will give the all-clear to return to class.
In the even of an actual tornado, students and faculty are to shelter in their assigned area until the weather passes and officials deem it safe. They will then congregate at the church across the street for further instructions.
Lockdown policies are detailed in the school crisis management plan and are practiced by faculty during inservice.
Lockdowns can fall into the two categories of internal and external threats. For an internal threat, all persons should evacuate or blockade, whichever is the safest option for their location. For an external threat, the building and each classroom will lockdown and shelter in place with limited or no hallway movement. More instruction should be provide by administration for an external building threat.
For evacuation, teachers should instruct their students to congregate at one of the two safe locations and take attendance, waiting for further instructions.
To blockade a classroom, any door should be locked and reinforced to prevent an intruder from opening it. All heavy items should be placed in front of the doors, and all persons should be prepared to defend their position and inflict harm on the intruder, if necessary. All persons in the room should be quiet and scattered out of view from windows. Faculty should still be trying to figure out a way to evacuate if there is an internal threat.
