Welcome

I am excited to have each and every one of you in class, and I look forward to a splendid year together.

This course includes grammar, usage, mechanics, vocabulary, poetry, literature- novels and short stories, and writing.

Materials

·   PENCIL- DO NOT COME TO MY ROOM WITHOUT A PENCIL & a pen- any color

·   One-subject notebook or paper designated for English class or paper

·   A folder designated for English class- you will be responsible for keeping several items all year

·   Laptop- be prepared to use it at any time

·   A Great Attitude!

Accountability

You are responsible for your own success! Practice the 3 R’s: Respect- Resourcefulness- Responsibility

If you miss class for any reason, it is YOUR responsibility to pick up any assignments or instructions given. Use your resources around you to be successful! Please check the make-up trays for materials, and visit with Mrs. Blanchette upon your return.

If you are going to absent for a planned activity, be sure to turn work in ahead of time. Assignments that are due the day of your return are expected to be done. You DO NOT get extended time because you were gone for a school activity.

All homework needs to be completed! This includes independent reading. Be responsible, and hold yourself accountable. All work needs to be handed into the appropriate tray the day it is due. Remember, no matter what you decide to do with your personal or professional life, you will always have deadlines to meet. This class is no exception.

Lesson Plans are updated online by Monday of each week! They are subject to change!

Computer Usage in Class

Use computers appropriately. Computers are only to be open when told to do so. When printed assignments are due, give yourself plenty of time to print before class. Assignments that are late due to printer issues are still late.

Writing Assignments

All typed papers need to be printed in New Times Roman, Ariel, or Calibri, 12 point font, double-spaced. If you are using GoogleDocs, just leave the settings as they are.

All typed multiple-page papers need the following heading in the upper left hand corner:

Cheating & Plagiarism

Cheating is simply not tolerated. Do not copy assignments or sources. It will only earn you a failing grade and a bad reputation.

All consequences for cheating that are noted in the student policy handbook will be followed!

Cell Phone Usage

Cell phones are to be placed in the phone caddies when you enter the room

If you choose to not follow this procedure, do not enter my room. You may report directly to the front office.

1st Offense: Parents come pick it up and 2 detentions, 2nd Offense: 20 Days- turn into office each morning, 3rd Offense: Rest of the Year- turn in to office each morning

Student Handbook- school policies and procedures outlined in the student handbook will be applied.
