Counseling Department
The Leander High School Counselors are available Monday - Friday 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM to serve students and parents, both in groups and individually, to help students meet academic, personal/social, and college/career goals. Individual referrals to the school counselor for any concern may be made by the student, parent, school staff or administration. Students may stop by the counseling office during the school day. Parents may call the counseling office to schedule a virtual appointment or a phone conference. Matters of urgency will be given priority.
The LHS school counselors are part of the Leander LISD's district team to help children find success in school by promoting academic, career, personal and social development. Our comprehensive counseling program involves parents in decision-making regarding their child's well-being and education.
Counselors and guidance professionals at LHS may collaborate with students, parents, teachers and administrators to identify barriers that may impede student achievement, knowing that every student is unique. They can help students attain positive attitudes towards themselves, their family as well as their community.
Some of the specific services offered by the department are below, but please reach out via email if you have a question or need direction.
Social/Emotional Support
Whether it is a conflict with a friend, anxiety about coursework, or a death in the family, the counselors are here to support students and families with various needs.
Students in crisis can seek support through the Counseling Office and counselors will work with families to provide the appropriate resources based on individual cases.
The answer may not always be at the school, but we can direct families and students to outside resources that may provide additional support.
Counselors will meet with students each year at counselor/student conferences to discuss and explore appropriate grade level goals and resources to keep students on track for success.
Counselors will meet with each student individually during counselor/student conferences to plan for the following school year and to review graduation requirements.
We ask that parents take part in our yearly parent grade level webinar/presentation and follow up with students following the counselor/student conference to discuss progress and future plans.
We encourage students to self-advocate prior to parent intervention. Parents can support their student in this by discussing what steps they should take to seek support for their needs.
