Professional Learning

KPETA Local Professional Learning Fund

KPETA members have access to a maximum of $600 (Canadian) per year for professional learning. This amount is not pro-rated for members on less than 1.0 FTE employment.

These funds may be used for course tuition, registration fees, and single room supplements.

These funds may not be used for principal qualifications or release time.

In order to access these funds, member must attend at least one meeting (fall or spring general meeting) during the year in which they apply. Funds become available July 1st each year, and are awarded on a first come-first served basis, subject to approval by the Local President. Funds are not guaranteed and are limited. In order to access these funds, members must apply using this form at the time of course registration.

In addition a book/resource subsidy of up to $100, that comes out of the $600 fund for professional learning, is being offered.  If you purchase professional resource(s) that you are using to inform your teaching practice, you may qualify.  This subsidy is meant to support your professional learning, not to supply your classroom with classroom materials that should be the responsibility of the board/school to supply.  For example you can purchase resources on how to teach writing, math strategies, etc, but not class novel sets, art supplies, etc.

You may ask for additional funding, within the allotted $600, if you find a course or workshop that would be of benefit to you through the fiscal year.  Again, this is on a first come-first served basis.  All other conditions apply in order to receive this money.
