Homework Policy
Homework Policy
I believe homework is important because it gives students another opportunity to review class material and it gives parents a chance to see what is being learned in school.
Only one ELA &/or one math worksheet will be given for homework each evening.
It is a review of the skills taught that day/week, so your child should be able to complete it independently. It should take no more than 10 minutes to complete.
Homework will be assigned Monday through Thursday only.
Assignments should be completed neatly and returned the next morning unless a due date is specified
Worksheets should be completed in #2 pencil and/or crayon if applicable.
Additional and/or modified activities may be assigned due to student need.
Reading logs
Read a book to your child for at least 15 minutes each evening (or your child may read to you).
Complete and sign the log located in your child's homework folder.
I believe that kindergarten projects should look like a kindergartener made them! Phonetically spelled words and large printing are examples of developmentally appropriate representations of your child’s abilities! Please resist the urge we have as parents to take over the project and “fix” it. Kindergarten teachers LOVE seeing your child’s best work at their kindergarten level.
Incomplete or Missing Homework Assignments
Will be sent home again the next day.
After the 3rd day, the student may miss recess or centers to complete the assignment in class. Parents will be contacted via email/planner and a homework contract will be developed and signed by all parties.
I understand that emergencies happen. If your child has a valid reason why the homework assignment was not completed on time, please email me. I will allow your child additional time to complete the project/worksheet.
How you can help:
Read the instructions to your child. Go over the first problem with him/her to ensure s/he understands what to do.
Allow your child to work independently.
Provide a quiet place, free from distractions, for your child to work.
Make sure your child has all the supplies needed before starting on the assignment.
Check that his/her name is written on the worksheet and that the assignment is complete, accurate, and neat.
Remind students to write in #2 pencil and color in crayon.
If your child completes his/her homework at A+, please review the accurateness and neatness of your child's work when they come home. Have them correct the work if applicable.
