Human Physiology is considered a second year biology laboratory course with an in-depth focus and study of the anatomy and functions of the human organism and its parts. Students are provided with extended opportunities to study issues, topics, and themes relevant to human physiology. Emphasis is on using scientific inquiry and analysis of the relationships between science, technology, and society to cover concepts of systems such as blood, circulation, respiration, nutrition, digestion, metabolism, muscular system, nervous system, and reproduction. Systems are studied in terms of interaction of the functions and their contribution to the maintenance of a proper condition of the body’s internal environment.

This course as been modified to be fully accessible online. Each unit will include five basic components- readings, videos, slides, an activity or project, and a quiz. Find the list of assignments and due dates on Overview of Assignments. All work will be available and turned in on Google Classroom (GC) Code: ax5dttq . It is expected that students complete work on time.
Read the articles assigned for the unit. Answer all Review questions at the end of each reading. Be sure to include the title of the reading, the question number, and either write out the questions, or restate them in your answers (click here for what this means). Responses may be typed or hand-written and scanned and uploaded.

Watch the video of the slide presentation posted on this site and GC for each unit. I will give you a code at the beginning of each video that you will use to access the interactive slides at joinpd.com. You will follow along with the video by clicking through the slides and answering the interactive questions embedded in the presentation. You may want to use a separate device, such as your phone, to access the slides and watch the video at the same time. If this is not possible, you may use multiple tabs on one device.
There will be a quiz at the end of each unit. All quizzes will be taken in class (unless full distance learning continues). If you are unable to take the quiz in person, please contact me BEFORE the quiz date to make other arrangements. *New* There will be one exam at the end of each quarter.
Some units will have a virtual activity or one that you can do from home. See individual activities on the Overview of Assignments document for instructions.
In many units, you will have the opportunity to complete a project of your choice on any topic related to the unit. See project options below. Find the rubric/checklist here. You may work on your own or with one partner. Presentations will be shared on website (doc., voice recording, video, etc.).
Don't forget to narrate slide projects. There are a few ways to do this:
Visual Display
Research and create a visual display summarizing an issue and solutions related to the unit OR Create an anatomical poster that shows the parts of the unit’s system with labels and descriptions. Examples: Digital poster, drawing/painting, performance.
Slide Presentation
Research and create a 5-10 slide presentation summarizing an issue and solutions related to the unit. Include graphics (pics, diagrams, graphs, etc.). *New* you must narrate your slides (voice-over or video)
Video
Develop a persuasive message by writing, filming and editing a 2-5 minute video relating to a topic relevant to the unit
Essay
1-2 page essay double spaced summarizing a topic related to the unit. *New* must reference in APA format.
Other
Get creative and come up with your own project!

Late readings, videos, activities will be accepted until the last Monday of each quarter with no penalty. No work will be accepted after this day.
Late projects will be accepted until the peer review/gallery walk. You may still turn in a project after peer review for half credit until the last Monday of the quarter.
Optional graphic organizers and slides (joinpd.com responses) will be accepted until the morning of the quiz for that unit.
Late quizzes will be accepted until the last Monday of each quarter for half credit.
No late exams will be accepted.
