Moku o Lo'e (also known as Coconut Island) is a small island in Kane'ohe Bay used for marine research by the Hawaii Institute of Marine Biology (HIMB). Visitors to Moku o Lo'e become visiting marine biologists in this 3-hour expedition consisting of common research techniques used in Kaneʻohe Bay, followed by a short visit showcasing some highlighted research stations. Labs include an invasive algae and invertebrate lesson and a plankton lab. Due to safety considerations, all participants need to be able to climb in and out of small boats, up and down several pier steps, navigate one to two small hills, walk on uneven paved and non-paved pathways, and for the walking tours, complete the entire ~ 1 mile tour at the pace of the group they are with.
