The Department of Education shall provide a caring environment conducive to the physical, mental, social, and emotional well-being of students while they are participating in school activities. Attention shall be given to the personal safety of each student during these activities and such attention shall include instruction in safety practices and attitudes; proper maintenance of buildings, grounds, and equipment; establishment and enforcement of proper rules of conduct at each school including a no use, no possession, and no distribution of tobacco, alcohol and other non-prescription drugs; and provision of services to safeguard students from the deviant behavior of those who fail to conform to standards of conduct compatible with the best interests of all. [Approved: 02/17/2015 (as Board Policy 305.1); amended: 06/21/2016 (renumbered as Board Policy 305-1)]
We believe that the best kind of discipline is self-discipline, one that comes from within the child, rather than one that is imposed. We believe that discipline should be preventive rather than simply punitive. This kind of discipline comes about only when the school staff works with students to consistently establish and maintain effective school and classroom discipline. The support of parents is essential in maintaining effective school discipline.
Be punctual; report to school on time. Classes begin at 8:00 a.m. If a student arrives after 8:00 a.m., he/she must report to the office for a tardy/admit slip.
Do not enter the classroom buildings before 8:00 a.m.
Make every effort to be present in school every school day. In case of absence, parents are to email the teacher the morning of the absence and send a written note to explain the absence upon return of the student to class.
Keep all the buildings and campus grounds free of graffiti and litter. (Property damage is a Class A offense. Students found guilty of vandalism will be required to make restitution.)
Walk in a quiet, orderly manner at all times while on the school campus.
Leave the following items at home (contraband):
• radios, cassette recorders, ipods, CD/DVD players, electronic games, and other electronic equipment including e-cigarettes
• yo-yos, darts, tops, slingshots, and other dangerous toys
• toys, sports equipment (footballs, basketballs, etc.) of any type
• pokemon cards, silly bands, or similar items that can be sold or traded
• pets
• valuables, excessive amounts of money, items of sentimental value
• fireworks, matches, lighters, pepper spray, or any type of explosive device
• packaged saimin, boxed jello/pudding, gum, and other foods that tend to become messy
• weapons including pocket knives, air guns, and toy weapons
Remain within school campus boundaries at all times. Students leaving campus during school hours must have a Student Pass from the office or health room and be accompanied by a parent/guardian. (Leaving campus without consent is a Class C offense, prohibited by Chapter 19 rules.)
Avoid the use of abusive and/or profane language and gestures. (Abusive language, a Class C offense, is prohibited by Chapter 19 rules.)
Avoid climbing trees, gates, railings, fences, and the school buildings.
Respect the property rights of others.
Leave the school campus as soon as school is dismissed.
Students may bring a cell phone to school at their own risk as long as it remains in their backpack in the off position during the school day. Students may turn the phone on once they have left the building at the end of the school day. The school is not liable for lost, stolen, or damaged cell phones. Student cell phones that ring or are used during the school day will be sent to the vice-principal or principal for the parent to pick up after school.
Whenever a student violates school rules and shows disregard for their importance, school personnel will institute the disciplinary procedures and/or consequences of Chapter 19. Click here for more detailed information on Chapter 19 policies and procedures.
