Igniting Inspiration Fall

STEM Camp

MAHALO TO ALL WHO EXPRESSED INTEREST AND PARTICIPATED IN THIS YEAR'S STEM CAMP!

Keep an eye out for next year's STEM camp information and registration!

Established in 2013

Since Fall 2013, the Mililani High School FIRST Robotics team has been hosting the annual Igniting Inspiration STEM Camp for elementary grade students in the Mililani school district. Our goal with this FIRST STEM camp was to get younger students interested in the fields of science, engineering, technology, and math by having our high school students mentor and teach the younger students through various hands-on projects.

In 2015, the Mililani High School Science club became a partner in hosting STEM club and has since aided in expanding the STEM Camp program to encompass additional fields of STEM, with varied experiences in STEM for the enrolled students.

With the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 and 2021, the STEM Camp had to be canceled due to concerns with health and safety - however, STEM camp has endured the challenges of the pandemic to return to its regular operations since 2022.

While the students and camps have changed every year, one thing remains the same: our clubs' commitment to inspiring the next generation of students with an interest in STEM.

The Mission of the Igniting Inspiration STEM Camp

To inspire a love of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics into the next generation of students.

During this five-day camp, our goal is to instill in the younger generation of students the value of STEM and useful life skills. Each camp, in some way, involves complex problem-solving and creativity through the STEM-based activities contained in each. There is a camp for each type of STEM-minded student, ranging from areas such as engineering and construction to computer science and programming.

Camps offered at Igniting Inspiration 2023:

Art in STEM

For students in grades 3 - 5

Students engage in hands-on science experiments and phenomena to learn fundamental critical thinking and analysis skills, while viewing the world of science through the lens of artistic expression.

Students will be able to take home many of their experiments and creations - they make excellent art pieces!

Dronelab with CoDrone EDU

For students in grades 6 - 8

Students learn about the construction and basic functions of drones, including extensive hands-on practice operating these devices. They also learn to use the drones in autonomous manners through introductory programming using Blockly and/or Python, two programming languages, to control the drone... without even touching the controller!

LEGO Robotics

For students in grades 3 - 5

Students engage in a modified, crash course of robotics design, assembly, and testing using the LEGO Mindstorms EV3 kit - based on the 2018 FIRST Lego League (FLL) game Into Orbit. Students will learn about fundamental design principles, EV3 robot components, and ultimately deign and beat self-directed challenges using the game board and game pieces from FLL Into Orbit!

Mini-FTC

For students in grades 6 - 8

Students engage in a modified, crash course of robotics design, assembly, and testing based on the FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) competition. Students will learn about fundamental design principles, robot components, basic shop skills, and ultimately play an FTC-styled, custom robot game with their built robots!
