Please take a moment to honor our traditional opening chant. Kahu Kauila Haumea has blessed this event for several years. In light of the changes that have come with the pandemic restrictions, we hope that you will take the time to view the chant from 2018 Malama Da Mind event.

The Children's Mental Health Acceptance Day Event has been held annually since 2005. This event had a humble start in the parking lot of the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Division, Hawaii Family Guidance Center parking lot, with a small handful of attendees. Now it has grown in size, to approximately 500 youth and families attending and 40 community provider agencies participating and providing enriching information about their services. The event also began featuring interactive booths, where attendee's get to learn about various mental health topics. Door prizes, honoring and recognition of influential community providers, free refreshments, and entertainment are some of the activities that highlight the event. It has been through the generousity of our community that this event has been successful.

In 2019, the Community Children's Council, Malama da Mind Committee decided to develop a Youth Council. The purpose of this Youth Council was to get youth input, as well as provide an interactive experience for the participating youth. The youth that participated in the Youth Council met on a monthly basis to plan, brainstorm and develop the vision of the 2020 Malama da Mind event. Unfortunately in March of 2020 our community had to shut down due to the COVID pandemic, resulting in the cancellation of the Malama da Mind event. It was a hard decision, especially because of all the hardwork the Youth Council had put in, but a necessary one. We hope that in 2023 we can revive the Youth Council and they can be a part in the planning of the event.

If you have a youth aged 15 - 20 that would like to be a part of the Youth Council, please contact Karla Yamanoha (808-313-3381) or Beth Lawson (808-313-3330).
