Welcome to the Kaimuki-McKinley-Roosevelt (KMR) Complex!
A three-year comprehensive induction program, including two years of intensive mentoring.
Time to meet with your mentor for a minimum of 180-minutes per month.
Processes may include: participation in an observation cycle, analysis of student learning alongside a mentor, lesson planning, goal setting, and any other support needed.
Ongoing beginning teacher professional development and professional learning communities designed to meet the unique needs of beginning teachers.
To be considered ESSA Hawaii Qualified for your teaching assignment, you must:
Hold a valid Hawaii teaching license in the subject area and grade level for the teaching assignment or Hold a valid Hawaii teaching license in any subject area for the grade span assigned, and meet one of the requirements under the following methods:
Passing score on a Praxis content exam or other accepted content exam for the subject area and grade span
National Board certification in the subject area
College major or 30 credits in the subject area
Completed ESSA Hawaii Qualified Teacher rubric in the subject area
Hawaii issued Highly Qualified Teacher certificate in the subject area

The good news is that you MAY already have it!
To see if you have any existing credits that count towards SIQ, follow the following steps:
1) First, email employment.records@k12.hi.us and ask for a copy of your transcripts.
2) Then fill out the attached "Sheltered Instruction Cover Sheet" and send that as well as your transcripts to: 523otmhqt@k12.hi.us
and say you are "submitting a request to look over your transcripts to see if you have the sheltered instruction qualification."
From there, you will be able to see how many credits you currently have and how many credits/hours you will need that meet the SIQ requirements.
If you find you need more credit/hours, reach out to your school's Admin, EL coordinator, or mentor to see if there are any sessions that you can take!
