Internship Program

Providing students with "work-based learning" opportunities

About the KGLL Internship Program

Ka'ū Global Learning Lab (KGLL) Internship Program is one component of education at Ka'ū High & Pahala Elementary School. In internships/work-based learning with an expert mentor in a field of the student's interest, students complete an authentic experience that benefits both the student and the mentor's worksite. Their Summary Evaluation Paper is an instrumental part of expanding student learning and academic growth. Internships provide students with multiple opportunities to explore fields of interest, complete real-world projects that develop their academic skills, and interact professionally with adults in a variety of areas.

Students eligible to participate in the KGLL Internship Program will receive sustained interactions with industry or community professionals in real workplace settings, to the extent practicable, or simulated environments at an education institution that foster in-depth, firsthand engagement with the tasks required in a given career field, that are aligned to curriculum and instruction.

How it works

Internship Search:

Students, parents, and the Internship Coordinator work together to secure internships for students based on their interest area.

Student Preparation:

Students must participate in a 2-week internship prep class to prepare them for the internship program.

Mentor Time Commitment:

A prospective intern will be scheduled for an introductory informational interview. Once the placement and internship schedule is agreed upon, the intern will start his/her internship lasting until the end of the school semester.
