Our Story: Princess Victoria Kaʻiulani Elementary School (PVKES) is located in the Kalihi-Palama community as part of the Kaimukī-McKinley-Roosevelt Complex Area on Oʻahu. Situated at 783 North King Street in Honolulu, PVKES belongs to the McKinley Complex within the Hawaiʻi State Department of Education. Serving approximately 250 students in grades PreK–5, PVKES proudly identifies as home of the Peacock, with school colors of blue, green, and yellow symbolizing pride, growth, and vibrancy.
Resting along the Honolulu coastline with the Koʻolau mountains as a backdrop, the school celebrates its rich cultural diversity and vibrant neighborhood, where local businesses, markets, and gathering places anchor daily life. Inspired by Princess Victoria Kaʻiulani—heir apparent to the Hawaiian Kingdom, known for her grace, resilience, and advocacy—the school community upholds aloha, perseverance, authentic teaching and learning, and a commitment to justice.
Neighborhood resources, including Tamashiro Market, Kalihi-Palama Health Center, HCAP, Honolulu Community College, and Downtown Chinatown, support students and families. Founded in 1899, PVKES has remained a cornerstone of learning, belonging, and hope through 125 years of demographic shifts.
PVKES provides a standards-aligned education, emphasizing rigorous, student-centered instruction that encourages collaboration, creativity, and innovation. Assessments guide instruction and measure growth. Accredited for six years by WASC, PVKES partners with families and organizations to ensure student success. Its mission—to educate and empower lifelong learners academically and socially—continues to nurture students who are resilient, respectful, responsible, compassionate, and ready to contribute positively to their communities, following Princess Kaʻiulani’s inspiring example.
