LEI is the Department's current single-repository data warehouse of longitudinal student data. The system provides essential summarized reports of detailed students' longitudinal data for teachers, school administrators, complex area and state program offices. LEI combines student operational data used in the Department for each school year into a dashboard portal for ease of access and use. Data includes risk factors, student enrollment, attendance, behavior, academics, socio-emotional learning, assessment, and demographics.
LEI Kukui
Public Longitudinal Educational Information
LEI Kukui is our new public-facing education data portal. The newest dashboards include performance measures showing progress on the 2023-2029 Strategic and Implementation Plan's three priorities and 27 desired outcomes.
LEI Kukui can be accessed at hidoedata.org or using the link below. The name of the portal combines LEI, an acronym for longitudinal education information, and kukui, which references the candlenut tree which symbolizes enlightenment and guidance.
LEI Kūlia
Internal Longitudinal Educational Information
LEI Kūlia is the upgraded version of the Longitudinal Data System (LDS). It uses intuitive navigation techniques with a user-friendly interface for an enhanced experience. It houses a collection of longitudinal education information for K-12 continuous improvement.
Data in the systems are updated daily and provides an "all student, all the time" view of all active students within the Department. Following student privacy rules, the system also secures access to the student data based on the individual's role in the Department.
Student longitudinal data is used by classroom teachers to identify patterns and trends in the student's educational history with the Department. Support staff (including Counselors, Student Services Coordinators, Curriculum Coordinators, Librarians, and Registrars) use various educational outcomes to monitor the operational progress of their respective areas. School administrators use longitudinal school profile data for accreditation, academic and future enrollment planning, and monitoring of students' measures of progress throughout the school year. Complex area staff use LEI to evaluate and identify opportunities for school improvement and staff development.

More About LEI
LEI uses simple and intuitive navigation techniques; enhances the presentation and use of educational information, often providing the reader information based on an inquiry (e.g., Which students are disproportionately served?); adds new sources of data (e.g., Kaiapuni Assessment of Education Outcomes (KĀʻEO), Kindergarten Readiness Assessment, and National Student Clearinghouse); and includes advanced dashboard reports and visualizations. LEI will continue to expand and include more staff demographics, identify highly-qualified teachers, staff survey data, and school demographics - including Community Eligibility Program (CEP), Title I, and school locale classification. Modernization of the system is taking advantage of lower-cost to operate commercial cloud-based services, advances analytical tools for data analysis, improved ad-hoc querying capabilities, and the ability to access and use data "24/7 - anytime, anywhere" on desktop and mobile devices.
State staff utilizes LEI to provide operational reporting of their respective programs to internal and external stakeholders. Specific programs supported include:
Alternative Learning Program (ALP) branch for at-promise students;
Hawaii Multi-Tiered Support System (HMTSS) for overall student support and trauma-informed services;
English Learner Program for students with limited English proficiency;
College and Career Readiness for dual-credit students and monitoring of students applying for FAFSA; and
Comprehensive Literacy State Development grant for identifying student needs and monitoring progress of grant outcomes
