HI HOSA State Officers report information concerning updates and new announcements during monthly Executive Council Meetings. The meetings usually include the treasurer's report, old business for past events, new business for upcoming events, and announcements. HOSA members and advisors from all chapters are invited to attend these meetings to receive up-to-date information and also make their voices heard. We highly encourage all members to attend our monthly Executive Council Meetings so we can hear their opinions and voices to make this HOSA year as successful and memorable as possible.
Executive Council Meetings are usually held virtually on Zoom or Google Meets.
The Hawaii HOSA State Officers conduct an annual Fall Leadership Workshop (FLW) to develop and enhance our chapter officers and members’ leadership skills so they can bring it back to their respective chapters. The State Officers incorporate lessons they learned throughout their term in office, and at the annual Global Leadership Academy (formally known as Washington Leadership Academy) in September conducted by the International HOSA Officers.
The highlight of Hawaii HOSA is the State Leadership Conference (SLC), where students from all the local chapters converge at the Hawaii Convention Center. Members are able to compete against each other in an array of events within six categories, and attend a variety of educational symposiums to learn more about the healthcare field from actual healthcare professionals. On the international HOSA website, there is a section named “Choosing the Right Competitive Event for You” where members are matched with an event based on personal preferences.
Another part of the State Leadership Conference (SLC) is our Pin Design Contest which is held prior to our SLC conference . Every year, we ask Hawaii HOSA members to submit designs for a lapel pin that represents Hawaii. All members across the state are eligible to vote among the slate of designs. The pin design with the most votes will represent Hawaii that year. These pins are worn at our State and International Leadership Conference (ILC) which is held in June. The winning pin will then by traded with thousands of students across the globe internationally at ILC!
"I have been a part of HOSA for 4 years and it has been a big part of my school life. It has been a way for me to figure out what I’d like to do in the future. I knew that I wanted to be in the medical field from a very young age, but being in HOSA helped me narrow down what I wanted to do and learn what I need to accomplish in order to reach that goal."
-Karsten Shishido, Maui High School Class of 2027
"HOSA has taught me that there are so many ways to make an impact. Every chapter is making a difference in dozens of ways. From hosting blood drives, starting campaigns, to supporting causes they collectively care about, we can all learn and be inspired from one another. Innovation and Service are HOSA’s driving force to spark meaningful and lasting change."
-Jay Arconado, UH Mānoa School of Nursing Class of 2029
"People should join HOSA because of the many opportunities it provides. It allows individuals to explore various healthcare professions and competitive events that enhance skills such as communication, leadership, and problem-solving. It can also help you get out of your comfort zone because of the various events HOSA offers, and it’s a great way to build new friendships while making a positive impact! HOSA can also offer personal growth and scholarship opportunities to the members, encouraging participation in the community. "
