Problem Based Learning: Handwashing 101
In this handwashing PBL activity students learned the value of handwashing. Students created different posters to advocate for handwashing in the school community.
Hands ONLY CPR Activity with Dayna Ching from Kapolei H.S.
In partnership with Kapolei H.S., Dayna went to the class and taught the HOSA EMMS students Hands ONLY CPR.
Learning Medical Math
Mr. Glenn Mendoza from Leeward Community College taught class about the value of math in the health care field. As an opening for the Medical Math Unit.
Guest Speaker: Lexy Puni, HPH
During this presentation, students were provided a more detailed presentation on what to consider when looking for an opportunity as a health care worker. They were also oriented about the amazing opportunities waiting for them in high school if they choose to be in the Health Sciences Pathway.
Quarter 3
Guest Speaker: Ed Chevy and Michelle Morris
During this presentation, students were taught about the basics of American Sign Language (ASL). Students were provided some tips on how to effectively communicate to individuals with exceptional needs. They were also taught how to sign some words that they might find useful in their future fields or life in general.
Problem Based Learning: Patients Bill of Rights.
In this Problem Based Learning Activity students were challenged to create a product that would help the general public know about their patients right. The Essential Question was How can students at Ewa Makai Middle School help advocate for their community and spread the word about patient's rights to the Community. Students came up with different products and designs from the usual pamphlets and brochures to some out of the box ideas like creating an actual working game to help educate the public about their rights. Launching event of the topic was led by Glenn Mendoza from Leeward Community College.
Mock Clinic: Tiger Wellness Hub
Feb 2025, Tiger Wellness Hub was launched and students get to showcase their Vital Signs Skills to the Staff at Ewa Makai Middle School. This Mock Clinic was done in partnership with Hawaii Pacific Health who send their nurses, Joy and Marichu to assist the students and guide them in the vital signs process. Students get to practice first using state of the art technology used in Healthcare made possible through funding from the DoDEA Kaulike Ola Grant.
