👷 Residential & Commercial Construction: Understanding of the different phases of a construction project from start to finish, including site layout, concrete laying, framing (walls, ceiling, floor, stairs, and roof), exterior finishing, and masonry work, while safely employing tools, interpreting construction drawings, and demonstrating proper measurement and application of mathematical concepts.
🛠 Mechanical, Electrical & Plumbing Systems: Knowledge and skills to become entry-level or higher technicians in HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning), electrical, and plumbing in residential or commercial structures, including basic operation, troubleshooting, and safety procedures.

Housing Crisis
Hawaiʻi is experiencing a severe housing shortage, which is part of the reason why, due to the law of supply and demand, the median home price in the state is over $1 million. Experts say Hawaiʻi must build roughly 36,000 new houses by 2030 in order to ease demand and make housing more affordable.
Growth Sector
Construction is the fifth largest sector in Hawaiʻi, employing more than 36,000 residents, and representing over 6% of the state's GDP. And yet, 63% of contractors say they struggle to recruit enough skilled workers. In order to solve its housing crisis, Hawaiʻi needs to grow its skilled workforce, especially, experts say, within the HVAC, plumbing, and electrical industries.
Green Buildings
The U.S Green Building Council promotes sustainability in the building and construction industry through its internationally-recognized LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) green building certification system, which verifies that a building or community was designed and built using strategies aimed at improving: energy savings, water efficiency, CO2 emissions reduction, indoor environmental quality, and stewardship of resources and sensitivity to their impacts. Hawaiʻi has a total of 246 LEED certified buildings, and ranked 5th among the 2019 Top Ten States for LEED.
