§HAR-11-501 – EPA National Emission Standards for Hazardous Air Pollutants (NESHAP)
Schools included under 11-501 / NESHAP
Requires:
INSPECTION by a certified inspector prior to renovation and demolition activities. Sampling required (AHERA / HAR 11-502 Exclusion Statement does not apply).
DOH NOTIFICATION required if more than 160 sq ft or 260 linear feet of friable material is removed (total amount at a facility within a calendar year).
Proper Work Methods required to prevent asbestos fiber release.
Proper Disposal requires friable asbestos to be disposed of in a licensed landfill.
Worker Protection and Asbestos in Construction Rules

Specifies how much asbestos a worker can be exposed to; various workplace practices; medical monitoring; worker protection and training requirements
Class IV asbestos work means maintenance & custodial activities during which employees contact but do not disturb ACBM or PACM*
Class IV workers trained in a manner consistent with EPA requirements for training of LEA maintenance & custodial staff
Prior to or at the time of initial assignment and at least annually thereafter
Class III work involves disturbing asbestos – 16 hour training
*PACM is "presumed asbestos containing material", the OSHA equivalent of "assumed ACBM" under AHERA/HAR 11-502
