About Our Academy
The Health Academy at Kapa'a High School was founded in 2003 when a group of students expressed an interest in exploring health careers. What started off as one class has now become a full functioning academy with three pathways that prepare our students to enter a variety of health care careers.
Our Vision
The students that are a part of the academy will discover their place in our community and the global society in order to pursue a pathway to a fulfilling career so that they can make their own unique mark in the world.
Our Mission
The mission of the Kapa'a High School Academy of Health Professions is to create a rigorous learning environment that provides our students with the opportunity to develop academic and employable skills for 21st century careers by participating in authentic learning experiences that promote critical thinking in an atmosphere that nurtures character.
In 2013, our academy adopted the above logo to represent our vision and mission. The logo was designed by a group of students with the help of the teachers. The flower in the middle is the blossom found on the kauna'oa plant. This is also the background photograph for the title at the top. Kauna'oa is a Hawaiian medicinal plant that was given to woman after birth and is used to treat cancer. It is a vine that grows on the beaches of Kaua'i and is slowly disappearing because of people driving on the sand and starting beach fires. The hands that hold the flower represent the students and their commitment to protect and nurture our medicinal traditions while striving to provide health care using the technology and methods of today's society. The 'olelo no'eau that surrounds the hands translates to it is through the way you serve others that your greatness will be felt. In our ohana, we truly believe that guiding students with a moral compass is just as important as academics. You will find this logo posted on all of our academy buildings, in our classrooms, and printed on student's academy shirts and uniforms.
