Welcome to the
High Plain Art Room
Curriculum and Goals
Our ultimate goal is to help each child develop confidence and self-esteem as they gain knowledge on how to express themselves visually. Through projects, they will gain an understanding of different medium such as drawing, painting, collage, print making and sculpture.
Projects will be centered around their personal experiences, the world around them, their classroom curriculum, literature and art history.
Art vocabulary: line, shape, color, form, texture, etc, as well as many principles of design: pattern, movement, balance, etc, are integral parts of projects and our discussions.
Projects typically begin with some sort of motivation. Usually we gather around the carpet, read a book, consider a question, or make observations. We collaborate as a class by generating ideas together and expressing opinions.
Students are encouraged to express their creativity through their personal choices and by drawing on their experiences.
Critical thinking is encouraged as students are constantly making hands-on decisions over their artwork and are engaged in discussions to develop analytical and assessment skills.
Communication is critical as students take part in conversations to further understand ideas behind projects and their artwork.
