Artists can be inspired by their personal experiences. Students shared some of their summer memories. "Who, what, and where" were considered.

Name Art:

Artists can be inspired by other artists. Students learned about the work of pop artist, Jasper Johns. They used the wax resist technique and rubbing plates to make art based on their own names.

Artists can use the size of an object and its relationship to the horizon line to create a sense of space.

Winter Self-Portraits

Students stamped various objects (bottle tops and cardboard scraps) to create a variety of printed papers to be used as hats, scarves, etc. After learning about the proportions of the human face, they drew and collaged their own likeness.

Weaving:

Students learned about the industrial revolution and the role that the Lowell Mills played in transforming Andover from a farming community to a city.

Students created their own painted papers and then made weavings with them.

Store Fronts:

As more people got jobs in factories and had more disposable income, more stores began to open in towns.

Students designed storefronts of the shops they would open on Main Street.
