Hi! My name is Aaron Mistry, and I am a senior at Andover High School. I am 18 years old and moved to Andover when I was 5 and have been here since. I have one older sister, Karishma, and spend a lot of my time abroad in England (pre-pandemic). I love to spend time traveling and have also recently gotten into photography! I am apart of multiple clubs at the high school (Red Cross Club, Health for Humanity, DECA, etc.) and outside of school I work as an IT Intern for the town of Andover. I also volunteer at Cor Unum Meal Center in Lawrence. My favorite times are always when I am in England visiting my family and love to spend every second with them when I can!
Joining the Global Pathways program has allowed me to gain a new perspective on the world that I felt was extremely limited before. I lacked understanding that people outside of the United States were struggling or assumed the struggles we faced here were the same as those outside of the country. However, Global has helped me to understand the importance of gaining a new perspective on these topics as it can truly shape who we are. I truly love what this program stands for and how it has allowed me to explore not only my own Indian culture, but also the cultures of the world around me.
Next year, I will be attending the University of Massachusetts, Amherst in the Isenberg School of Management and the Commonwealth Honors College. I am looking to major in finance and also biology, as I want to be able to explore both of passions. I am excited to continue my educational career at UMass and can't wait to see how my experience in Capstone and Global will impact my future.
For my CapStone, I am looking into the Global UN Goals: #2 Zero Hunger and #10 Reduced Inequality and the stigma that surrounds GMOs or genetically modified organisms. I want to find a way to garner acceptance for these products and find a way to safely implement them into developing countries or countries that are stricken with hunger. Many people today have opposed eating things that have been synthetically produced as most believe that they are toxic to our bodies, in reality, these products pose the same risks to eat as organic foods do.
The Andover High School Global Pathways Program is a series of experiences for students and faculty to thrive as global citizen-scholars, in our complex, dynamic, and diverse global society. Students are guided by faculty advisors as they travel their global path through world language study, immersive travel, service learning, a Global Research Project, global course work and other experiences that lead toward the Endorsement for Global Engagement.
