Election 2018 (Updated)

Election 2018

By Maxine VanOsten

This past election was one of the most historic ones ever. Arizona elected its first woman Senator, Kyrsten Sinema, who is also that first openly bisexual senator. Sharice Davis, from Kansas, became one the first Native American congresswoman, being only the second openly Lesbian member of Congress. In Colorado, Jared Polis became the first openly gay man elected to a governor's office. New York elected the youngest Congressperson, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who is only 29 years old. The Democrat’s “Blue Wave” was more of a ripple. You could say that instead there was a rainbow wave. Democrats won control of the House, but lost two seats in the Senate. Republicans won close ones in Georgia, Florida, and Texas. As of right now (November 17) Florida is unsure who their Governor is. Because the results were so close, there must be a recount by machines, but if they are still unclear they must all be recounted by hand. It will be a very interesting week in Florida. Overall, both sides had a good night.
