SCHOOL DROP OFF + PICK UP INFO
DROP OFF:
As winter brings colder and darker mornings, we kindly ask families to remember that our front doors don't open until 8:00 AM. For student safety, please avoid dropping off your child before this time, as supervision is not available. We also encourage students to wear reflective gear during these darker months to help keep them visible.
PICK UP:
Teachers remain outside with students for 10 minutes after dismissal. To ensure all students are supervised and safe, any child not picked up within that time will be taken to our after school program, HEADQUARTERS (Room B217). Families may come into the building to pick up their child or call the office assistant, Colleen Luna Lewis, at (907)796-5867 to have them be sent outside. Please be prepared to show your ID at pickup.
School Report Cards
District and school report cards are created on an annual basis. Report cards include information on attendance rates, graduation rates, assessment information, and other statistics regarding the district and school’s population.
All report cards can be accessed through the Alaska Department of Education & Early Development website.
The data for JCCS is attached here.
Exploring Nature
Every day, rain or shine, we head outdoors. Students are given time to move, play, and collaborate with one another. Our unique location in Juneau provides easy access to scenic trails and flowing streams, enriching their outdoor experience.
All School Centers
During “Centers,” students take the lead in their learning by choosing hands-on experiments that spark their curiosity. This element of choice boosts both engagement and long-term understanding. Activities range from math and logic games to taking apart machines—or even dissecting fish!
Projects
Projects are at the heart of our curriculum, giving students the opportunity to connect ideas across subjects like literacy, math, science, and social studies. By weaving these disciplines together, students build deeper, more meaningful understanding of the topics they explore.
Small Groups
Whenever possible, students are placed in mixed-ability groups—not just based on skill, but also to encourage peer modeling. This approach helps students learn with and from one another while building the trust and confidence needed to take academic risks.
