Welcome to the Obama Magnet Library Website!
It has been an exciting year getting to know our new location, arranging and rearranging the book shelves to try to make it all fit, and getting to know the new middle schoolers and new daily routines. The focus of this website is on the Obama Magnet School Library and topics related to elementary students.
The library is open daily from 7:20-7:45 on Monday and Friday morning for Obama students to stop in and check in and out a book. Tuesday-Thursday mornings are reserved for Northwest students. Elementary classes are scheduled on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 9:15 - 2:30. Tuesday and Thursday are administrative days set aside to assist Northwest staff and students, take care of library tasks (shelving, inventory, ordering), manage the school-wide property and equipment inventory, assist Obama students with tasks, collaborate with teachers, and more. Anytime the doors are open, students are welcome to come in and use the library.
Looking for a library book? Use the OPAC page (online card catalog) to search to see if our library has what you are looking for. You can login on the site and reserve a book, see what books you have on loan right now, and create a favorites list. There are also links to SORA to help you find an eBook to check out. Check out this guide to help you learn how to use Advanced Search features.

Excited about our new fiction titles. The Jon Klassen and Mac Barnett books are very fun. My Daddy is a Cowboy is a Caldecott Honor book and a Coretta Scott King Illustrator Award book.
Not pictured is The Creepy Pair of Underwear because it was checked out before I could photograph it!

Hi, I'm Ms. Hellings. I've been the librarian at Obama Magnet School since January 2012, although I have worked at Obama since August 2007. Since our school move, I now serve as the librarian for Northwest Middle School as well. Helping students find a book or series that gets them excited about reading is one of my favorite tasks as a librarian. My least favorite? Taping all the ripped pages in the Dog Man books!
If you need me, email me at khellings@jackson.k12.ms.us or call the school at 601-960-5334.
