COVID-19 Safety Policies
Dolhonde Library will follow updated CDC guidance, the Louisiana Department of Education reopening guidelines, and JP Schools reopening guidelines.
Middle School Books
Books are labeled and placed in the middle school section if 2 or more professional sources list them as appropriate for grades 5 and up (for example, ages 10-13 or grades 7+). Students in 6th-8th grade are able to select titles from this section automatically. Parents can allow students in grades 4-5 the option to read either a specific title/series (such as Harry Potter) or any middle school title with a signed permission slip. These permission slips will be sent home to all 4th-5th grade students at the beginning of the year and upon request. A copy will also be placed here for reference or use before the start of the school year.
Please note that books that are professionally considered to be appropriate for grades 3/4 and higher, even if that overlaps with middle school grades, will be placed in the general fiction section which is accessible to all students.
Book Checkout and Fees
Students in grades Kindergarten through 2nd are allowed to borrow one book at a time. Students in 3rd-8th grade may borrow two books at a time. These books are considered due after one week, but may be returned earlier or later without a fine. Fees will only be applied if a book is lost or damaged beyond reasonable wear and tear.
