The Hard Rock Drilling Science Focus Group aims to advance our understanding of the physical and chemical properties of the Earth's crust and uppermost mantle, as well as the formation and evolution from oceanic to continental crust. We purse this aim through collaborative, cross-disciplinary research in the field of drilling science.
In addition to leading mantle drilling projects using the scientific frilling vessel Chikyu, our group supports, under the framework of JpGU, related scholarly and interdisciplinary activities such as those of J-DESC, IODP3 and ICDP.
