access Google Classroom if ClassLink is down

If ClassLink is down, you can access Google Classroom by doing the following:

  • This should only be done if ClassLink is down. Rostered textbooks and online tools will not be accessible if you don't use ClassLink.

You can access Google Classroom by typing in classroom.google.com and signing in to your student Google account when prompted.

Be sure to sign in using your entire student username.

    • USERNAME@student.joshuaisd.org

Once in Google Classroom, you can click the waffle icon at the top right to access Google Drive, Google Docs, Google Slides, etc.

You can also access Skyward by going to the District website.

Clearing Browsing Data (Cache)

  • Open Chrome.

  • At the top right, tap More (three dots).

  • Tap History. Clear browsing data.

  • At the top, choose a time range. To delete everything, select All time.

  • Check the boxes next to "Cookies and site data" and "Cached images and files."

  • Select Clear data.

  • Refresh pages (you may have to login again)

Common Issues

  • Verify correct login screen.

  • Verify that you are logging into the Joshua ISD ClassLink login page and not the generic login site.

The screen is black, but the power button is on.

  • Hold down the power button for 10 seconds to shut down the Chromebook.

The screen is frozen.

  • Hold down the power button for 10 seconds to shut down the Chromebook.

ClassLink is not loading.

  • Clear the cache.

Access Denied Error pops up.

  • Clear the cache.

Google Classroom or another program is not loading.

  • Clear the cache.

  • Email the teacher.

  • Does verify password pop up when signing into ClassLink? If so, you need to verify it. See how to do this below under CLASSLINK PASSWORD VERIFICATION. If it doesn't, let the teacher know.

Textbook is not working.

  • Let the teacher know.

Applications in ClassLink keep spinning (i.e. Skyward, Adobe Spark, Eduphoria).

  • Refresh the page.

  • Clear the cache.

  • Does verify password pop up when signing into ClassLink? If so, you need to verify it. See how to do this below under CLASSLINK PASSWORD VERIFICATION. If it doesn't, let the teacher know.

A shared device at home keeps deferring to another account.

Not able to view content due to popup blocker.

Don't see your bookmarks or extensions.

  • At the top right, click the button with your icon or person icon.

  • Click Sign in to Chrome or Turn on Sync.

  • Accept prompts and/or sign in with your school Google account.

  • To customize your sync settings, click Manage your Google Account.

Updating A password in classlink

  1. Right click on the app and select Update Password.

2. Select Edit to the right of Default to review the username and password.

3. Click the eye icon to reveal the saved password. Make changes and click save.

You cannot update passwords for rostered items. If you do not see the option to update the password on ClassLink app, it either doesn't require a password or it is rostered and cannot be changed.

  • If you can't open a document because it says you need access, check to make sure you are signed in with your school account.

  • Sign out of all Google accounts and sign back in.

  • Email your teacher.

How to log in to a personal and school device.

  • School -When you log in at school on a managed Chromebook, you only need your username

        • first 5 of last name/first 3 of first name/000,001,002,or 003

        • Example: smithjoh000

  • Home - When you log in at home on a personal device, you must enter in your entire email address.

(Elementary and Middle School students have email addresses for their usernames, but they cannot send or receive emails)

    • Students = USERNAME@student.joshuaisd.org

    • Faculty = USERNAME@joshuaisd.org

Classlink password verification

Issue: Skyward/Adobe Spark/Textbooks/etc not loading in ClassLink.

Students and teachers that get this pop-up need to enter their password to verify their account. You should only have to do this once.

If you get an error message or the password is not accepted you need to click the x or Cancel to close the window. You will do the following to complete the verification process.

How to update ClassLink Password

In ClassLink, click on the profile image at the top right, select settings.


Select the Sign In Tab

Click on the Key

Enter in password twice.

  • Students: Student ID

  • Teachers: Computer login password

Passwords cannot be changed. Contact your teacher if yours doesn't work.

Click Save.

Enter old password

If your Chromebook is displaying this screen, click Forgot your old password?

Afterward, it might say You may proceed, but only your synced data and settings will be restored. Click proceed anyway.

This should resolve the issue.
