Studio Expectations:
A - Always do right, do your best, and be creative
R - Respect your teacher, yourself, and your classmates
T - Tools are to be used with safety first, be gentle with them, and always clean up
Studio Procedures:
Entering the Studio
1. Walk in quietly and orderly
2. Read the directions on the screen/posted on the T.O.D.A.Y. board
3. Complete your daily warm-up
4. Quietly read the board for the day's activity and wait for further instruction
Exiting the Studio
The teacher will notify students when they need to clean up and get ready to leave. Students will be dismissed when:
1. All trash has been picked up off the floor and tables
2. All supplies and materials have been put away
3. All areas have been wiped down
4. All students are seated quietly standing behind their chair and ready to leave
5. The TEACHER WILL DISMISS THE STUDENTS, not the BELL. The bell is merely a tool for the teacher to dismiss the class at the correct time.
Getting Out of Seat/ Asking for Help
Raise your hand until you are called upon. It is expected that you raise your hand to get out of your seat. There will be certain activities that require you to move freely in the studio. I will let you know when it is appropriate and give you permission to do so.
Quieting the Class
The teacher will signal when attention is needed. When you hear the signal, stop all movement and talking and look at the teacher. This will tell the teacher that you are ready to listen.
Leaving the Studio During Class
Restroom breaks should be taken care of during passing periods. Students are to remain in the art studio in order to maximize instructional time. If it is an emergency, students will need to ask permission from the teacher and will be issued an electronic pass to use the restroom.
Announcements & Visitors in Class
Intercom announcements or adults needing to talk to the teacher or a student may occur during class. You must stop talking as soon as you hear the intercom, or an adult enters the classroom, so that the appropriate respect is given to the situation..
Turning in Artwork
You may not take any works in progress home unless you have been given permission by the teacher. A student may have the opportunity to take a project home to be worked on outside of regular class time ONLY with teacher approval.
Artwork is to be turned into Artsonia by way of a picture submitted to the Artsonia website. There may also be work that is completed via technology, ie, an Artist Research Project. All graded artwork will be stored in student portfolios which will be made out of a sheet of 22" x 28" Poster Board. This Poster Board should be brought to the studio sometime during the first couple of weeks of school. All major art projects will be kept in the studio and returned at the end of the semester. Pay attention to where you should store and turn in all artwork. You will need to write your name and class period on the back of all art work.. Exceptional artwork may be requested to compete in the Lone Star 8 Art Show which happens in the Spring. In that case, the teacher would keep the artwork until after competition.
Make-up Work
Students shall be required to make up work missed because of excused absences or participation in approved school-related activities. It is the student’s responsibility to get the missed assignments and make up the work. To make up for work missed, the student shall be provided no less than one day for each day absent, per district policy.
Artwork
All projects (project grades) and assignments (daily work) are expected to be turned in completed and on time. All deadlines are announced at the beginning of each project. Projects turned in as incomplete will be graded to the same standards as a completed project. Incomplete projects are an indicator of poor time management. Students may utilize art tutorial times to complete work outside of regular class time. Tutorial times will be available during 4th period.
Supplies
It is your responsibility to keep up with your supplies such as your Art Folder and a pencil. These items will be used daily and are stored in cabinets in the art studio.
Substitute Teachers
When you have a Substitute Teacher, you are expected to behave and continue with studio rules and procedures just as if the art teacher is there. Most of the time you will still complete your “warm-up” and work on art activities and projects, unless otherwise noted by the Substitute Teacher. Having a substitute teacher is not an excuse for misbehavior, disrespect, or foolishness in the studio.
Grading Procedures:
Grades in this class are earned, not given. Projects are graded based on project requirements and art standards outlined in a rubric. Students are made aware of the requirements and standards when projects are assigned. Students are expected to make up missed work in order to turn projects in on time. This is a project-based learning classroom.
60% Projects
All art projects are expected to be completed in class. Projects should demonstrate student’s knowledge of art techniques and mediums learned in each unit and meet requirements and standards as set by the teacher. Projects need to be turned in on time to avoid late points being deducted.
40% Daily Work
Daily work will consist of daily warm up assignments, class notes, various writing prompts, and daily art activities.
Late Work (JISD Policy for K-8th)
A deduction of 10 points for each day late.
