Texas uses a multi-pronged approach to ensuring that all Texas students graduate college, career and/or military ready. The Texas Education Agency (TEA) recognizes that preparing students for post-secondary readiness requires intentional planning in the areas of advanced academics, counseling, advising & student supports, career & technical education & military programs.
JISD school counselors support the efforts of preparing our students for post-secondary readiness by engaging in counseling, advising & students supports. School counselors are expected to prepare students for CCMR by providing them with a comprehensive school counseling program, providing advising to help students navigate transitions academic & career planning & through multi-tiered levels of support that focus on breaking barriers to learning.
More information about the school counselor's role in CCMR can be found at the TEA CCMR Counseling, Advising & Student Supports webpage .
JISD school counselor support students through academic & career planning beginning at the elementary level with academic & career awareness & continuing until the student is a post-secondary ready graduate.
The JISD school counseling team has planned intentional, aligned CCMR programming in grades K-12 to expose students to post-secondary options. The JISD CCMR Vertical Alignment document, embedded below, is a living document that is embedded into the JISD school counseling continuous improvement process.
Once of the ways in which JISD students can become post-secondary ready is through the JISD Career & Technical Education (CTE) department. The CTE department at JISD prepares students to work in an ever-changing workforce by providing them the knowledge & skills they need to successfully enter the workforce in their area of interest.
JISD school counselors partner with the JISD CTE department to ensure that students have equitable access to course offerings & programs. For more information about JISD CTE programs, please visit the JISD CTE webpage .
Another way in which JISD prepares students to be post-secondary ready is through the JISD Associate's Degree Program (ADP) in partnership with Hill College. JISD students have the opportunity to apply to the ADP program during their 8th grade year. Students who graduate in the ADP program receive a high school diploma & an Associate's degree.
