The Texas Model for Comprehensive School Counseling Programs recommends the creation of an advisory council to support the work of the school counseling team. The advisory council should be made up of those most invested in school counseling programs & those who are most affected by the changes made to those programs.
The purpose of the advisory council is to make recommendations that best serve the students in the district and lead the implementation of school counseling program improvements.
The advisory council should include central office administrators responsible for instruction and school counseling, the superintendent or designee, and administrators of special programs who use or support the school counseling program. Campus school counselors and principals should also be represented.
In Joshua ISD, the counseling advisory council is enveloped within the district School Health Advisory Council (SHAC).
