MAKEUP

All actors—including males—must wear makeup. This helps define facial features under stage lighting, ensuring everyone looks their best on stage and in photos. 

Please also provide makeup remover wipes.

Makeup Options:

• Professional Stage Makeup: If your child is enjoying theatre and is interested in participating in future productions, consider a Ben Nye stage starter kit (available on Amazon). These kits last for years and include everything needed. Choose a kit that matches your child’s skin tone (for help selecting a shade, see Important Tips below).

• Regular Makeup: If you already own makeup, you may use it instead of stage makeup. If you plan on buying makeup, these are less expensive brands we recommend:

  • • Eye shadows: Morphe or NYX (available at Ulta). Any other brand with strong pigmentation is acceptable.

    • Primer, foundation, mascara, blush: E.L.F. (available at Target, Walmart, or Ulta)

*It really doesn’t matter the brand, just whatever you are comfortable with. Check the important tips below.

Important Makeup Tips

• For stage makeup kits, select the option that best matches your skin tone.

• For regular makeup, choose a foundation one shade darker than natural skin tone. This prevents the actor from looking “washed out” under stage lights.

• Always moisturize before applying makeup. This protects skin and makes makeup apply smoothly.

• Cleanse the face with makeup remover wipes before applying makeup and after each performance.

• Use natural colors to enhance and define features, not heavy layers of makeup.

Makeup You Should Use

• Foundation: Light, matte layer, one shade darker than skin tone.

• Eyeliner: Use brown eyeliner on eyelids. Avoid black for a more natural look.

• Eyebrows: Using the same brown eyeliner to enhance eyebrows. Brown eye shadow can also achieve this effect (a little of either product goes a long way).

• Eyeshadow: Use natural brown tones—avoid bright or shimmery colors.

• Blush: Soft pinks, applied lightly to the apples of the cheeks and cheekbones.

• Powder: Use skin tone powder to set makeup.

• Lipstick: Matte, natural colors only. Use a lip liner if desired for definition. Choose a long-wearing formula to last through the show.

• Mascara: Use a lengthening formula.

• Fake Eyelashes (optional): Choose natural-looking styles only. Apply mascara after attaching lashes, not before.
