Things you will be graded on:
Because this is a performance-based class, an additional component is included in the weighting of the grades:
· Assignments (15%)
· Assessments (60%)
· Performances (25%)
Materials needed for the class that you should bring every day:
· A working instrument (including all accessories like reeds and valve oil)
· Method Book
· Pencil
· Music (given in class)
· Single subject composition notebook (given in class)
Concert attire:
Black or white top (dress shirt, conservative tie for the boys)
Back dress bottoms (girls can wear skirts as long as they go to their knees, no shorts)
Black dress shoes with black socks (if socks worn)
Performances:
· As a member of a performing ensemble at FHMS, all performances are mandatory. Rare circumstances exist in which you may have an excusal from a performance. In those rare circumstances, a “Concert Make-Up Form” needs to be turned in at least two weeks before the performance. The absence needs to be approved and made up to receive points.
· If there is an emergency (like illness) the day of the concert, an email or phone call is expected the day of the performance before the concert to be able to make up points.
· Not showing up to concert with no notification will result in a “0” for that performance. Extenuating circumstances will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
Other:
Our classroom follows all of the school RATTLE rules and disclosure, including keeping cell phones put away.
In following the school-wide policy, if your student wants to retake an assessment, they must have completed and turned in all corresponding assignment for that learning goal.
Each student will be assigned a locker and a lock where they can keep their instrument and a folder slot, where they can keep their music and journal. Loss of lock, folder or music will result in a fine. Music is $5 per piece.
Students can come before or after school to drop off/pick up their instruments, practice, retake tests, ask for extra help or anything that is needed. They can also make things up during DiamondTime.
We will be using Google Classroom; the class codes are here. Students will turn in practice logs every week, due every Tuesday, and turned in through Google Classroom. They are expected to practice 20–30 minutes, five days a week.
