Sienna (7A1) has had a very busy and successful start to the year with her dance training outside of school. She was awarded a scholarship to attend the prestigious Central School of Ballet in London this academic year, alongside a travel bursary from Broxbourne Arts Forum, who have supported her in pursuing her vocational training.
In February, Sienna performed the lead ballet role of Ella in Ella’s Big Chance, an adapted Cinderella story set in the 1920s. As part of the tour, Sienna and the company performed across London for SEND schools, children’s hospitals, and community groups, with a special invitation to perform at the Royal Academy of Dance in Battersea.
Sienna has also achieved fantastic competition and exam success this year. At the Dance Creative Competition, she was awarded 1st Place Gold and achieved the highest overall score of the entire competition. In March, she competed again in Northampton, where she was awarded two 1st Place Golds, two 2nd Place Silvers, the Overall Judges’ Choice Award, and a £400 scholarship to attend a summer intensive at Brighton Academy. Sienna also received 95% Distinction for her Royal Ballet Level 1 exam and a high Distinction for her Grade 3 ISTD ballet exam.
Looking ahead, Sienna continues to work hard and has qualified for the All England Dance Regional Finals this May, where she will be competing with the Mayhem team as well as performing two solo routines.
We are incredibly grateful for the ongoing support from John Warner School and its staff, which continues to enable Sienna to pursue her aspirations of a future career in the performing arts.
On Tuesday 24 March the Performing Arts had their showcase, 'Behind the Curtain'. IT was a lovely event, that contained dance drama and music. Choir sung some wonderful songs which included sign language. Dancer performers brought us a 90s inspired party to Steps MegaMix and drama club performed their production Dreamland.
It was so lovely to see students performing on stage to friends and family, showing such enjoyment and watching their confidence grow. Thank you to everyone that attended.
In Year 8 drama we have been studying devising and looking at stereotype characters you may find at school. As part of this topic students were to create their own set design based on a classroom from a shoe boxe. Students did an excellent job, and here is just a small handful of the wonderful work submitted.
