Dear Parent / Carer

As we reach the end of this term, it is remarkable to look back at how much we have achieved. Although this has been a relatively short term, we have crammed a lot in, as you can see from the highlights and events shared below.

In the classroom, our staff have been focused on the development of adaptive teaching. This work ensures our lessons are responsive and flexible, allowing us to meet the specific needs of every student and support their individual progress. On that note, I must also reinforce the vital link between attendance and achievement. Every day missed in school is a day of missed learning, and your support in ensuring your child is here every day is greatly appreciated.

I would like to extend a huge thank you to our staff and students for all their hard work this term and to our parent body for all their support. I wish everyone a very restful break and look forward to seeing you all for the term ahead. A reminder that all students are due to return on Tuesday 14 April 2026.

Community Reading Project at Roselands Primary School

In celebration of World Book Day, and in recognition of this year’s National Year of Reading, we were delighted to present Roselands Primary School with a wonderful selection of fiction and non-fiction books during our weekly visit as part of the Balliol Award.

Our community reading project continues to go from strength to strength, and this year I am fortunate to have a dedicated team of Sixth Form students joining me. They work with Year 6 pupils, listening to them read and supporting their growing confidence and love of reading. One of our aims this year is also to re‑create and refresh the library fiction area, a project in which the Sixth Formers will play a key role.

Students Spread Easter Cheer at Broxbourne Nursing Home

Twelve of our students and Mrs Bertolone enjoyed a heart‑warming visit to Broxbourne Nursing Home this week, spending their time taking part in Easter‑themed arts and crafts alongside the residents. The room was filled with creativity, colour, and plenty of smiles as everyone worked together to make Easter cards, wreaths, and a range of seasonal decorations.

The atmosphere was lively and joyful, with students chatting, laughing, singing , dancing, and sharing ideas with the residents. It was inspiring to see intergenerational connections forming so naturally. Many residents commented on how uplifting it was to spend time with young people brimming with energy and enthusiasm. Our students were equally positive, expressing how much they enjoyed hearing the residents’ stories and helping bring their creative ideas to life.

Carnegie Club Kicks Off a Reading Race!

Get ready… get set… READ!
Our brilliant Carnegie Club students are gearing up for one of the most exciting reading challenges of the year: tackling all eight books shortlisted for this year’s Carnegie Medal Award.

Think of it as our very own bookish Olympics — except instead of running laps, we’re turning pages; instead of passing batons, we’re passing opinions; and instead of medals… well, we are deciding who deserves one!

Over the next few weeks, our readers will be diving headfirst into stories filled with adventure, mystery, emotion, and characters so real you think that they go to our school. Every book has something different to offer, and our club members will be chatting, debating, laughing, and maybe even shedding a tear or two as they read.

Year 7 Geography

This term, the Year 7s were asked to create a model of the Earth's structure illustrating its four layers. Every student demonstrated exceptional skill and creativity; the attention to detail and commitment to accurately representing the crust, mantle, outer core, and inner core was truly impressive.

The models were not only visually striking but also showcased a deep understanding of the geographical concepts involved. Mrs. Guzeloglu and Mr. Price would like to recognise and applaud the outstanding efforts of Austin (7A1), Gracie (7A1), Kian (7H1), Hadrian (7H1), Chloe (7S1), Connor (7T1), and Olly (7T1) in completing this Geography home learning task.

Congratulations on your hard work and dedication. Your achievements are a testament to your academic ability and enthusiasm for learning. Keep up the excellent work!

Year 12 Food Science

Well done to our Year 12 Food Science students, who successfully completed their food practical on Tuesday 17 March.

They all produced some excellent dishes in the demanding 3½ hour window. They should all be extremely proud of what they achieved!

Maths Challenge

On Wednesday 28 January, students from Year 9, 10 and 11 took part in the UKMT Intermediate Mathematics Challenge (IMC). The challenge requires students to complete 25 multiple choice question in 60 minutes . Students are only provided with plain paper to complete their workings out on, no other equipment is allowed. A total of 135 marks can be achieved in the IMC. 5 marks are awarded for each correct answer to questions 1 – 15, and 6 marks are awarded for each correct answer to questions 16 – 25. Each incorrect answer to questions 16 – 20 loses 1 mark, while each incorrect answer to questions 21 – 25 loses 2 marks. Any answers left blank will be marked as 0.

The threshold for certificates this year were:
Gold: 61+
Silver: 46+
Bronze: 35+

Learner Voice Council

Our Year 7 Learner Voice Council met with Mr Price and Miss Jagss on Monday to pitch their ideas for a revamped rewards system. From "Skip the Queue" passes for top attendance to big end-of-year trips, the group used real student feedback to suggest ways to celebrate success. We are so impressed with their professionalism and look forward to exploring these great ideas!

Year 11 College Students

Year 8 Portrait Project

Here are a selection of Year 8 examples from the current portraiture project. Each student chose someone they find inspirational in the world and linked their work to Bisa Butler and Chris Ofili who we studied earlier in the term. They are not quite finished yet but I am sure you will agree the results are impressive, they are now adding background designs and meaningful links to ensure their work has substance and depth.

“Working alongside Jill and her team of 6th form students continues to be a wonderful experience for Roselands. We have capitalised on Jill’s wealth of knowledge and experience to support us in re-vamping and refreshing our non-fiction library. Most recently, through the Community Reading Project, we have been able to top up the Book Corners in our classrooms with a selection of fabulous non-fiction books. It is a pleasure to see our Year 6 pupils sharing their books with the 6th form students who are enthusiastic and keen to support. We look forward to continuing to work with Jill and her team."

To Miss Curaba,

From the bottom of all our hearts we are truly grateful for everything you have done for us you are such an inspiration to us all. Ever since our first lesson together in year 10, being your students has been such a pleasure. We will all miss you when we leave and you have such a special place in all our hearts. None of our shows would be possible without you helping us. Thank you for making our dreams come true and making it possible for us to have one last final show, it will be a show that none of us will ever forget. Thank you for giving up your after schools and having such commitment and faith in us. You are such an inspiration to us all and you have had such an impact, and we will never forget you. Please please, never forget us and please carry on the drama legacy. We will always be one email away if you ever need any help. I can't wait to see what the future holds for John Warner drama, we are going to miss you so much and I don't think there has been a single lesson where I haven laughed with everyone. I will forever be grateful to have you as a teacher, and I am so glad we built drama and built such a strong connection, not only as a class, but as a friendship. Words can't describe how grateful we are for you, and I hope that Dreamland is not where our story will end. We love you miss!
