I hope you all had an enjoyable and restful half term break. It is good to be back and we are looking forward to the exciting things that this half term will bring.

I am delighted to share the articles below that showcase the incredible work of our talented students. It is always a pleasure to highlight their creativity, skill, and commitment across all subjects.

The end of last half term was dedicated to celebrating success. It was a pleasure to spend time with a large number of Key Stage 3, 4, and 5 students at the rewards events. It is incredibly important to recognise and celebrate the many positive things that our students achieve both inside and outside the classroom.

We were also pleased to receive lovely feedback on our students who attended the various trips last half term, reflecting their excellent conduct and enthusiasm while representing the school.

We look forward to another busy but rewarding half term with all of our students.

Key Stage 3 Art Club

Over the last half term, Key Stage 3 students from Years 7, 8 and 9 have been looking at the Day of the Dead and sugar skulls in the Tuesday art lunchtime club.

Here are a selection of their designs using a range of media. This half term they will be developing a poly print from their ideas.

GCSE & A Level Art Exhibition

In July 2025, the Art department celebrated the work of the year 11 GCSE art students and the A level Art students by holding a private view exhibition in the art rooms.

We are extremely proud of the work they produced, and wish them all the best for their future endeavours.

Year 12 Art

This half term, Year 12 artists have been exploring printmaking as a practical workshop in art.

Here are some of their very successful results using collagraph printing and colour reduction lino printing.

Sixth Form Chemistry Trip

The Year 12 and 13 chemistry students went on a school trip to Pharmaron, where they learned about careers in analytical chemistry, biochemistry and pharmaceuticals. Students enjoyed a tour of the labs and machines, before actively engaging in a Q&A session with some of the scientists.

Students were informed that they have the opportunity to apply for a one-week work experience at Pharmaron on the design and production of pharmaceuticals, which takes place during the summer term. It was wonderful to see the students demonstrate curiosity and respect in the wider world of chemistry.

Year 11 Geography Trip

Our Year 11 Geography students completed a highly successful and engaging field trip to the London Docklands.

This essential trip allowed students to conduct vital Urban Regeneration fieldwork, directly supporting their GCSE studies. They investigated how the area has been transformed from its industrial past, collecting primary data on land use, environmental quality, and resident perceptions.

Students skilfully applied their knowledge, employing geographical techniques like annotated sketches and environmental quality surveys. This enabled them to effectively analyse the contrasting areas of the historic docks and the modern Canary Wharf development.

The practical experience was invaluable, powerfully bringing textbook concepts to life and providing fantastic data for their upcoming controlled assessment.

Well done to all the students for their excellent effort and enthusiasm.

Rewards Event

To mark the end of this half term, students from Years 7 to 13 were invited to join their Key Stage Leads and Heads of Year to celebrate their success and positive start to the academic year.

We were so pleased to see so many students being invited to attend this event where they had croissants and hot chocolate, and our older students also took part in a quiz. There will be whole school rewards events at the end of each half term to recognise our students' achievement.

A massive well done to all involved, we are incredibly proud of you!

English: An Inspector Calls Investigation!

The Year 10 English class had a fantastic, Halloween-themed lesson focused on J.B. Priestley’s An Inspector Calls.

Students participated in a special crime scene investigation designed to help them determine which character held the most responsibility for the tragic death of Eva Smith. It was a highly engaging way to revise the play's key themes and characters!

A special shout-out goes to the students who excelled during the An Inspector Calls crime scene investigation:

Logan transformed his police report into a GCSE essay answer and stepped up brilliantly to serve as the class judge.
Emmanuel and Archie demonstrated excellent critical thinking, debating eloquently to defend and accuse their respective suspects.
Olivia and Angelika, after intense interrogation, meticulously reviewed their decisions to ensure their conclusions were accurate and backed up by textual evidence and quotes from the play.

Great work from the whole class!

A Look Back at Halloween in the Library

This past Halloween season, the library successfully invited students to unlock the doors of mystery, magic, and mayhem!

Our special collection of horror and thriller books certainly kept hearts racing. Students explored tales of haunted houses and ghostly whispers and chilling curses that lingered long after the last page. Whether they loved creepy stories that sent shivers down their spines or thrillers that made them jump at the creak of a floorboard, there was something lurking on our shelves for everyone.

Many students dared to Read After Dark, discovering authors who weave nightmares into every paragraph and heroes brave enough to face the monster hiding in the shadows. The spine-tingling collection proved perfect for stormy nights and pumpkin-lit evenings.

We hope the Halloween spirit followed our readers home, and that they remembered to turn on the light after closing those pages!
