The prototype model of the student’s work can be seen in a short video (YouTube) clip via the link below:
The team consisted of: Isabella - Food packaging, Olivia - virtual roller coaster, Eseosa - virtual roller coaster, Yaren - Food Packaging, George – Rollercoaster, Cem – Rollercoaster, Maddox - Rollercoaster
Quotes from the students about the impact of completing the Industrial Cadets Bronze award:
Cem – “I learned design skills and working with a team efficiently. As well as researching materials to create a long-term cost-effective solution. This helped improve my long-term thinking skills rather than thinking of short-term solutions that would need to be resolved at a later time. To conclude this helped me to learn to discuss with my team on these solutions and what could be implemented into virtual roller coaster.”
George – “I learned how to work with a team better and how to communicate with my team in a more time saving manner. I also learned how to design more efficiently and to not need to prototype a concept to see if it works or not. I also learned that sometimes you don’t need to use as much material as you might think at first. I also learned that if we do a different idea to what we first thought sometimes it worked out better thee the original would have.”
Maddox – “I learned how to communicate with other people better to find a better solution and result than we would have gotten if we did not communicate. For example: We were going to use titanium or steel but realised that it would either be too expensive or it would not hold up against the elements of the world but then, Cem suggested that we use a titanium alloy that resisted rust and was cost effective so we ended up using that instead which was a result that would not have happened if we did not communicate like we did.”
Isabella – “I have learned how to work efficiently with a team and I really enjoyed having discussions on how disabled people have less chances to have fun so we made a virtual roller coaster so the pregnant and less fortunate people can have as much fun as we can. The hardest bit of this project was making our designs as we had to brainstorm and agree on our opinions”
Eseosa – “I enjoyed working as a team with my friends and it was nice to be able to have discussions and learn how a roller coaster works and operates. I also enjoyed how we considered other people not just ourselves which then led us to the idea of having a virtual roller coaster. The hardest part was making the vr goggles but we got there in the end. Doing this was really different compared to just sitting in class.”
Yaren – “I enjoyed working as a team and it was nice to have discussions and do something different instead of sitting in class and doing work, I also enjoyed how we learnt to make a roller coaster work and operate. The hardest part was I think making the template for the popcorn box because I struggled folding in the parts and how to make it look presentable, another thing about the roller coaster was I think it was good that we talked about how we can make it appropriate for people who are disabled or have special needs.”
