Meet The Teachers

Dayna Artim is a Clayton High School Academy of Health Sciences teacher who brings 13 years of clinical practice and teaching experience to the classroom. She is passionate about preparing students for careers in healthcare through hands-on learning. Dayna earned her Master of Science degree from the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences (MCPHS) and is a Registered Dental Hygienist and CPR instructor. She is committed to helping students build the knowledge and skills needed for success in the health sciences. 

Mr. Austin Barbour

My name is Nicole Barkman, and I am delighted to begin my fourth year at Clayton High School and my sixth year serving Johnston County Schools. This year, I am teaching Sport & Event Marketing I and I Honors, along with Sport & Event Marketing II Honors. I am also proud to begin my third year as the NTHS Advisor.

Last year was a particularly rewarding year for our NTHS chapter, as we celebrated earning our first-ever chapter award at Clayton High School. In addition, my Sport & Event Marketing I students had the unique honor and opportunity to be chosen by Mrs. Hubbard, our Principal, to welcome the State Treasurer and County Superintendent to our classroom. Students shared their learning and demonstrated how the skills developed in our CTE courses connect directly to real-world careers and employment opportunities.

I am incredibly proud to be part of the Clayton High School community and grateful for the opportunity to prepare students for success beyond the classroom. One School. One Team. All Comets!

Senior Chief Bond is a retired U.S. Navy Senior Chief Petty Officer and an experienced educator with a distinguished career in military service and education. During his 20 years of active-duty Navy service, he served as a Radioman and Information Systems Technician, specializing in communications, information systems, and naval operations. His career included multiple deployments. Senior Chief Bond retired from the Navy in 2006 at the rank of Senior Chief Petty Officer.

Following his military career, he began a second career dedicated to education and mentoring young people helping develop the next generation of leaders through NJROTC. His approach combines the leadership principles, discipline, teamwork, and sense of service developed throughout his military career with his passion for education and student development.

Senior Chief Bond holds an Associate of Arts in General Studies, a Bachelor of Science in Education/Business, and a Master of Arts in Military Studies with a concentration in Naval Warfare. He also holds a Graduate Certificate in Educational Technology and Online Instruction.

CAPTAIN Edward Eder is a retired US Naval Officer with over 32 years as a Surface Warfare Officer.  He is a graduate of North Carolina State University with a Bachelor's degree in Psychology, focused on Human Resource Development and School Counseling, and was commissioned through the NC State Navy ROTC Program.  He also holds a Masters degree from the Industrial College of the Armed Forces in National Resource Strategy with concentrations on the Transportation Industry, Supply Chain Management, and Northeast Asia Regional Security Studies.

I am one of the agriculture teachers and FFA advisors here at Clayton High. I grew up in Garner on a Tobacco and Cattle Farm, so I love that I get to teach something that feels so close to home. I studied Biology at UNC Charlotte and am currently pursuing my Masters in Agriculture Education at NC State. I offer Animal Science I and II. Animal Science focuses on large animals in agriculture and Animal Science II focuses on companion animals and veterinary science. Agriculture is so much more than farming. The courses that I teach focus on leadership, career readiness, and practical life skills. FFA is a student organization that gives students the opportunity to take the knowledge learned in the classroom and get hands-on and practical experience through leadership conferences, community service, competitions, and so much more
