College basketball has more than over 100 teams that compete for a spot in a tournament called March madness it consist of 68 teams that fight for a chance for a national championship. College is way different from the nba because they have more teams and a bigger playoff tournament. Some of the better basket ball players have came out of college

Volleyball

Today you will be learning about volleyball! Volleyball is a sport that originated in Massachusetts USA. It is played all round the world. Did you know that volleyball is 125 years old!? 

Volleyball is a sport that is played all around the world. Volleyball is a game that is split into two teams. There are 6 people on each side. Your goal is to try to hit the ball on the other team. If you hit it to the other team's side then your team gets a point!

 You will always need to keep your head up when you play. When you play you will learn the skills of leadership, teamwork, communication, and respect. There are 6 actions when you play. Blocking, serving, passing, setting, spiking, and digging.

                    College football

College football has so many teams but only 25 can be ranked and only 1 team can win it all. If your team is good enough you could go to the college football playoffs. But you have to be ranked in the top 4. The playoffs start around christmas. Then if your team is good enough then you can get a bull game which that is 1 last game of the season and not every team gets a bull game.

Johnston Volleyball

Johnston volleyball practices in the Johnston High school from grades 10-12. It ran from August to November in 2023. 8th and 9th graders practice volleyball in Johnston middle school. Johnston has had one state title in 2007 and has been to the state tournament 9 times. It also has had 11 state appearances and has state runner ups in 1997 and 2008.

The reason why this is important is that the nlf is important to the teams to get a trophy when they win and all the teams want it will give you a lot of attention so that is why people want it.

The Kings starting players in 2023 are De’Aaron fox, Kevin Huerter, Harrison Barnes, Keegan Murray and Domantas Sabonis. The Kings play home games at Golden 1 Center in Sacramento California. Right now in 2023 their record is 15-9. Keegan Murray made 12 three pointers against the Utah jazz.

Do you know the history of women’s basketball teams? Back in 1892, a girl’s basketball team was introduced into the world. However, by the 1970’s, girls basketball became very popular. Back in the 1890’s, women wore long skirts and slippers while playing basketball. This led to many injuries and bruises, so in the 20th century people decided it finally needed to change. Luckily, women finally wore a type of short called “bloomers.” Bloomers were baggy, knee-length pants fastened below the knee. In 1893, there were already hundreds of teams across the country within just two years. In 1896, the first women's team to open up was Stanford, and the person who started women’s basketball was Senda Berenson Abbott. Senda was considered the “mother” of women’s basketball. Senda also was the one to write the first rules for women’s basketball, having them published in 1899. Sadly, she died in 1954, close to the time women’s basketball was finally being seen by everyone.
