We made it to the end of our amazing adventure at Mt. Mahawu! Five days flew by, and we're sad to say goodbye, but we're also stoked to share all the epic moments with you. The hike up this dormant volcano was a highlight for everyone - the views of Manado and the surrounding islands were simply breathtaking.
As we packed up to leave, our students took a moment to reflect on their experience and show their appreciation to the EFT staff who took care of them all week. They even wrote some heartfelt poems and thank-you notes - it was a sweet moment to see them so grateful. We are now on route to the airport. Jakarta here we come.
Today has been an exciting day at Tulap Turtle Conservation Centre! The students enjoyed a fantastic snorkeling session, exploring vibrant marine life. They participated in an insightful seminar about turtle conservation, learning about the challenges these creatures face.
In the afternoon, the kids engaged in a turtle nest simulation activity, where they discovered the importance of protecting turtle nests. The day culminated in the heartwarming release of newly hatched baby turtles, as the students watched in awe as the tiny creatures made their way to the water for their first swim. This unforgettable experience not only deepened their understanding of marine ecosystems but also instilled a sense of responsibility towards these precious beings. As they left the centre, we hope the lessons learned will have a lasting impact.
We kicked off our day with a fresh water survey in the local stream to assess and observe the small creatures that inhabit this vital ecosystem. Following this hands-on activity, we engaged in bonding exercises that fostered connections among the students, helping them create lasting friendships. Journaling sessions allowed everyone to reflect on their experiences and observations from the morning. The highlight of the day was our visit to the Tangkoko Nature Reserve, where we participated in an activity on how to record observations of the fascinating creatures that inhabit the rain forest. The students had an incredible time learning about biodiversity while exploring the reserve! Additionally, we were fortunate to meet a primatologist who guided us through the rain forest, allowing us to see the black crested macaque in its natural habitat.
Our day at Tasikoki Animal Rescue Centre was both fun and exhilarating! We engaged in hands-on activities, creating stimulating enrichment toys for the animals. Students enjoyed crafting these innovative toys, observing their reactions from safe viewing areas. The afternoon brought us to the breathtaking underwater world, where we explored the vibrant marine life through snorkelling. We concluded our day with a meaningful beach cleanup, learning about conservation and helping to preserve costal environments.
