Day 4 was our big adventure to Labun Island. We kicked things off with a team obstacle challenge on the beach, where everyone worked together and showed great team spirit. After lunch by the ocean, we dove into snorkeling over a coral reef, battling strong currents but spotting some amazing underwater life. We followed that up with kayaking around the calm lagoon, and then finished with the afternoon highlight — jumping off the tower into the ocean!
After dinner, the fun continued back at Nongsa. We started with a video recap of the photo scavenger hunt, with everyone laughing and cheering as they relived the first day’s highlights. Then it was time for the Batam Talent Show, where students impressed us with their creativity, confidence, and talent. We wrapped up the night around a bonfire, enjoying music, roasting marshmallows, and telling stories.
Warmly,
The ESP Batam Team
Hi Parents,
Day 3 brought a little rain and a lot of resilience! Our groups swapped yesterday’s experiences, allowing everyone to explore the mangroves and rainforest environments.
The Yellow Group headed inland for a day in the lush rainforest. Despite the wet start, spirits were high as students hiked through the trails, sampled water from the Panbil river, and dove into local environmental issues through hands-on weaving and a conservation debate at the Edu Park. It was a powerful way to connect with the region’s ecosystem and consider how we impact it.
The Purple Group had their turn at the mangrove site, rotating through beach clean-up, propagule planting, nature walks, and creative batik painting. In the afternoon, they split into teams for sailing instruction, coastal exploration, and games.
That evening, both groups reunited for an epic popsicle stick bridge-building challenge. Teams had 40 minutes to design and build their strongest bridge using only sticks and tape. Then came the real test—adding weight to see which could hold the most! Laughter, teamwork, and a bit of friendly rivalry made it a fantastic end to another full day.
More to come tomorrow—thanks for following along!
Warmly,
The ESP Batam Team
Hi Parents,
Day 2 was full of hands-on learning and exciting outdoor adventures as students explored two very different parts of Batam’s environment.
The Yellow Group spent the morning immersed in the mangrove ecosystem. Students gained a deeper appreciation for coastal conservation by rotating through batik painting, a nature walk, beach clean-up, and propagule planting. After lunch at the site, they returned to Nongsa for an afternoon split between sailing lessons in the harbor and a seashore exploration session, including games and turtle conservation learning.
The Purple Group headed inland for a rainforest hike, followed by a hands-on river sampling session at Panbil’s freshwater site. They learned about local conservation challenges and tried their hand at water hyacinth weaving. Their afternoon wrapped up with a tour of the Edu Park and a lively conversation debate before returning to Nongsa for some well-deserved pool time.
After dinner, both groups came together for a spirited trivia night, where students tested their knowledge, competed in teams, and had lots of laughs along the way.
Everyone's excited and energized for Day 3—stay tuned for more updates!
Warm regards,
The ESP Batam Team
